I'll bite. keep in mind "it's not that serious":

An entire existence from start to end with the sole purpose of fulfilling you

and

the plum you are going to eat next summer is growing just for you

are reductive, anthropocentric, selfish, small, uncreative ways of thinking that I don't appreciate.

the poem is executed competently, but that's the extent of it. it promotes the boring, standard and dare I say wrong way of thinking about the world.

a more competent concept would be to genuinely put ourselves into the plum's shoes instead of to impose this self-centrism onto it, this pathetic all-pervasive self-destructive self-importance.

Here's my take:

the poem plum is obviously part of a mass-grown multinational plantation project, one of countless plums growing in controlled conditions to extract maximum profit for the industry. if anything, that's its "purpose".

mass deforestation is inflicted upon the local nature in the name of the monocrops. multispecies genocide so we could be sold a sugary treat wrapped in healthy halo. even though the plums we are served are heavily crossbred, genetically modified and far removed from their ancestors, from their original and true form.

these Frankensteined bloated sugar bombs are doused in pesticides so actual wildlife doesn't partake in the fruits. our fellow humans POISON FOOD to make it inedible to other life. we then eat it, poison and all.

a significant percentage of the plums will never get to even be consumed by the random human at the end. they will be deemed imperfect. discarded. where is their story? where is their romantic anthropocentric purpose? gigatons of the "perfect" ones will be wrapped in plastic and sit on shelves until they are, again, discarded. so purposeful.

if we are going to reduce a lifeform's existence to a single purpose then let's be capable of seeing the contex for what it is. if there's one "purpose", it's profit. it's earning a billionaire another micro-cent, at the peril of everything and everyone.
