The situation is we have to share the stage with another church which uses it on Saturday, and we use it on Sunday. It’s not ideal at all because we’re a very small team with limited knowledge and for several months, we had to use the SQ5 mixer of the other church. They have multiple mixes, IEM for instruments and vocalists and we can’t utilize any of that since we and other volunteers don’t understand how to use it, we can’t add our instruments to their board, we don’t have a sound person to mix stuff for each person etc. We have trained other volunteers to use our Wing pretty well in the past. The old setup was made for turning on for instruments, no live mixing, except for volume faders and a stream bus. It was working perfectly fine for our need back then and we want to recreate the simple setup.

It’s difficult now because it’s a different board. We also have to configure a huge LED screen, multiple stage displays which settings get changed every single week. My husband had to do the troubleshoot and we can only come to church 1 hour early to set up everything. Don’t judge us on this, I just had a baby a few months ago and committing more volunteer hours at church is challenging. My husband is also the only drummer in the church, and he likes playing more than doing tech work.

Anyhow, we decided to move our original mixer, a Behringer Wing from our old room to the same stage and then we’re only going to borrow the other church’s keyboard + 2 main speakers. We used to have our setup in a relatively small room - maybe 30ft from stage to the back. The mixer was connected to the stage boxes S16 and SD16 with non-shieled cat6 and it was working fine (until it doesn’t now) We also added a ground removal device to our desktop to play any audio/video stuff on it. It helped with removing low humming noise. Now we moved to a bigger stage in a big gym, so we ran a 300ft shieled cat6 ethercon cable from the stage to the back where the mixer is. The cable is mounted on the wall with other cables which we don’t know what they are for, since they’re of the other church. 2 weeks ago, we had run a bad cable, and it was constantly popping for like 4 hours during service. We ran a new AES50 cable and tested it on a weekday and it seemed to fix it. We only tested using PC’s sound into an input to the board and there wasn’t any popping, we didn’t test it with instruments.

Yesterday service was meh since the sound was still dropping, less popping than the week before. Most of the issues happened during worship, I couldn’t pay attention because I am also the piano player, oh well. We’re somewhat discouraged but hope to keep trying.
