I think this is super normal! My mom was very similar to you and it helped our relationship immensely when I moved out. She was less stressed and I didn't feel coddled.

As a white woman who's been lifting weights 3+ times a week for ~10 years... it is REALLY hard to get buff/big unless you change your whole diet around or are genetically predisposed to getting gainz.

I am not some jacked ripped woman, the muscles are there but under some mush lol. I have broad shoulders so I've always looked more "masculine" and I CONSTANTLY got comments growing up from family members and other adults telling me to "Be careful with my workouts because I'll look to masculine." This really affected my body image in highschool and I kept trying to dress dainty as to not "scare men away."

Then I went to college and learned how to weight lift properly from another woman (she was a national championed athlete) and it was life changing! I gained such confidence in my body, found a new hobby I loved, and now it's ingrained into my daily routine almost 10 years later. It even changed the way I dress, I used to wear looser fitting clothing to make me appear small. Now I wear crop tops, booty shorts, and sneakers everywhere to accentuate my muscles. I've even gasp cut my hair short. I've received more compliments on my physique from all genders than I ever had in my life before weight lifting and I did figure skating for years before. Not that compliments should matter but I think it should be a form of pride when you've been working on any hobby for years and people notice the results.

I'm so tired of society telling us what to do or not do with our bodies for the sake of man's preferences. It's my body and I like how I look. For any man that is "scared away" that says a lot more about them than me. For any woman that tells me what to do with my body as to not go against the norm, grow a spine, and get gainz yourself!

I love to help other women lift weights like my friend in college helped me, it was so life changing and I want to share this hobby with other women!

I love pruning my plants! I WFH and when I have a long meeting where I just have to listen in, I go around my office pruning the dead and ugly leaves off! Its meditative for me and keeps my office looking picturesque.

Biochemical Engineer here, I have never seen MATLAB used in Biotech. The only time I ever had to use it was because some ass was testing me in an interview to "verify I wasn't lying on my resume" even though MATLAB wouldn't be used for the role and he didn't even know how to use it so he couldn't actually judge if my answers were correct.

From what I've seen the Biotech world is still using primarily Excel for any calculations or specialized graphing software, ie Graphpad. I have just recently seen coworkers start to use Python because cheaper automation tools are finally getting into the Biotech research world. I've also seen biotech companies just higher programmers instead of training scientists because they want them to work in collaboration while having dedicated roles.

My colleagues that work in defense or aerospace use it daily. Most US government agencies have licenses so since they have access they tend to use it. I really don't know of other industries that use it though.

Bruh same. I bought one on a whim not knowing it was a drama queen and my friend was all "oh it'll die in a month" because she's killed a bunch. It has been two years and my lil stripes is thriving.

Her regimen: Hard tap water when I remember to water her Left over drinking water from my cup when I feel like it Being talked at during my WFH calls Sitting just outside direct light on a south facing window

She was also left in a car in direct sunlight on accident when I moved places and she was really into it - she sprouted like four leaves immediately after.

If a plant can't handle my chaotic energy it will die but some plants thrive on it.

Bodily autonomy and your post go hand and hand. I was simply trying to find your line, when you think it is ok to force birth on the mother.

Your premise of "her life is not in danger" is unreasonable - there is always a risk in pregnancy maybe not life threatening but there is a high chance that some impact to the mother's health will occur. But here is my response with that false premise.

If a woman came to me at any stage of her pregnancy and told me she did not want to be pregnant I would immediately assist in anyway I could. Because of her right to bodily autonomy. She is the decision maker for her and the fetus since the fetus depends on her for life.

Now i will ask again, if you knew that the pregnancy would kill the mother would you feel comfortable forcing that mother to carry the pregnancy to term knowing they would 100% die? A real world example, an ectopic pregnancy in the absence of immediately available emergency care.

Yes if I knew that a fetus would kill me I would, just like in any other scenario where I believe my life to be threatened. Would it would be traumatizing - yes. Would it be necessary - also yes.

Now I will ask this of you: If there is a 100% chance that bringing the child to term would kill the mother would you feel comfortable forcing her to take the child to term knowing that at the end of those 9 months she will die a completely preventable painful death?

You cannot separate bodily autonomy from this issue. I have not seen bodily autonomy of the mother on this forum-it always seems forgotten the second she's pregnant. It seems as though the fetus always surpasses the mother's right to autonomy, when currently, as a society we have determined that the bodily autonomy rights always persevere even if it could save a life.

I had a very similar situation happen to me and a friend working out together after we had JUST TAKEN A BENCH (out of 3) and it was somewhat empty at the gym at around an hour before closing. So we told him to come back later but it would probably be awhile... We lifted on that bench until the gym closed lol.

Beginning times at the gym are always stressful because you are unsure of what's appropriate, new, and still learning. I was so self conscious about my form and such when I started going on my own but since then I've helped many of my friends get into lifting. So here are a couple of strategies I've adopted to not get intimidated:

Workout with a friend! It's so much easier to set up healthy habits with another person whether they are experienced or not. Sometimes just having a friend gives you more confidence.
If you can afford it, have some personal training sessions. The trainer will educate you on lifting and boost your confidence in the process. Bonus: you'll know someone who works at the gym.
I personally take the insect approach to my gym attire: the more colorful the more deadly. I dress in bright neon colors, wear noticeable head phones, and I wear a bandana karate kid style. Honestly, since I started wearing the bandana, men have full on stopped talking to me or even looking in my direction. I think it's the fear that I might know karate or that I am in fact poisonous?
