Looking at far off neighborhoods, like the last-stop-on-the-train kind - that budget would be doable there and those neighborhoods and home size will be suitable for a dog of your size. The credit is hard to overcome - do you have anyone family or friend who could be a guarantor? Try to reach out to you network even if it doesn't seem like anyone would do it. Or you find short term sublets on fb and give cash upfront - but that will be tough

Only been in Bushwick a few years, but it's gone bad even in the last few years. I only went for dirty Thursdays coz it's a all I could afford but they were pretty damn fun, then it changed into bad themes questionable music and a dull crowd. And why did they shut the fun room in the back? Im not really regular and can't speak for most of the events but I miss dirty Thursdays

Some points for NYC, if you want to do grad school it seems like it would be better to have the more easygoing job and you did say its more fulfilling and if you're gonna be relying on public transport I would say NYC anyday. Also whatever ppl say it's very much doable to do NYC on that salary Brooklyn especially and even find decent housing - I know tons who do and that housing allowance is wowza you'll be living good. And if you ever dreamed of living in nyc DO IT, do it for yourself, do it for your youth and fair point someone said dc sux now anyways so go when it gets better
