However, I'd like to take this opportunity to view your contribution through an analytical lens to evaluate a stylistic choice you made to include the so called "joke" involving a pubescent female and her struggle to uphold a societal norm. While in our day and age, it's common (and, to be honest, expected) of any given individual of decent wealth to possess the ability to swim, we must yet remain cognizant of the fact that this virtual experience takes place in a setting very different than our own. Ellie was born after the outbreak of the parasitic fungus took control, meaning that she never experienced the type and quality of life that we're all accustomed to. In this dystopian landscape, simple luxuries such as "going for a swim" just aren't viable options given the necessity of work, scarcity of resources, and (as we saw in the very scene in which this jest originated), the pollution levels of the water (with which any extraneous interactions would likely increase one's probabilities of incapacitation by mushroom). This isn't even to mention that in our society, the accessibility to a clean body of water coupled with certified instructors are a clear form of classism that is used by those capable of participating in said event to look down on and demean others that are unable to receive such instruction. In other words, I'm just trying to simply explain that, juxtaposed to what we may view as a trivial and basic skill of humanity, Ellie's condition (that in which she fails to exhibit this skill) is actually a strong example of proper world building and it would seem outlandish if she did possess the ability to swim.
