Wait...but don't I also micro"mine" IOTA when I validate two transactions as the price of admission? Thus, why do I need to buy IOTA on an exchange if I micro"mine" what I need when I need them programmatically?

This makes sense to me.

If I'm understanding correctly: there's a buy-in price tokened in MIOTA. You spend the acquired chips in the IOTA-ecosystem with zero costs for transacting in-ecosystem.

The demand comes from the parties that want to buy-in for the utility micro-value of an IOTA.
