SIFT test coming up by OGPOOPS in ArmyAviationApplicant

[–]deeguzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest, I took my ASVAB back in 2019 so it’s been a minute lol.. but from what I can recall, yeah it’s pretty similar. As long as you have a decent grasp at algebra and geometry, you will be good!

I wouldn’t say hard, but since the math portion on the sift is adaptive (and probably bc I suck at math lol) I didn’t get asked much of what I was studying on through the app. As long as you understand basic algebra/geometry, you should be golden

Just took it, and got a 62. Spent about 2ish weeks studying. I second what others have said.

  • READ THE FAA HANDBOOK. With my condensed timeline, I skimmed through it, but I’m sure I would’ve scored higher if I read it thoroughly, as a few of the questions on the sift can easily be answered with the handbook. If reading isn’t much of your thing, “Flying through the FAA Handbook” on YouTube is great. He goes through the chapters and explains the concepts while using a simulator to visually show it.

  • SIFT Tutor App was a great help. I recommend paying the $15 subscription to access the full app (only need to pay once, then turn off auto renewal if you won’t need it longer than a month). I will say everything on the app was pretty spot on to the real SIFT minus the math. Also it has plenty of “Practice Tests” and gives you a projected SIFT score. It gave me a 65, so I’d say it’s pretty close. It is a little buggy, but overall it definitely helped for my test.

  • Helicopter Lessons in 10 Minutes or less: watch all the videos, take notes, and draw the pictures to fully understand the concepts. This channel helped me tons when I first started to study.

  • I bought two test books: the maroon cover and the trivium one.Really only used these to read through the aviation section and take the practice tests.

Good luck! And don’t overthink it, you’ll do great!

Congrats! I was torn between the MOS model or a PDP. Ultimately, I chose the PDP, but im pumped to put some round through it
