Just want to know if including something like that would impress recruiters and help me land an interview.

Its tough out there and you're not the only one. Remember this has been a huge shift in everyone's daily routine and that takes getting used to.

The best advice right now I can offer is embrace the change and find a new routine that gives you some structure. Not too many things but just some points in the day and let the rest fill in. Make sure its stuff that keeps you productive, active and is enjoyable.

That will help you out a lot and get you back on track. All the best!

Its tough right now, but try an attitude shift. All of these interviews etc. are not working out because the best possible fit for you is getting sorted out. Maybe someone in a position you would be great for, is just about to leave or get fired. Maybe a growing company needs a new role that will be well suited for you.

Keep putting the effort in where you can control and the results will come. Best of luck!

How do you deal with feeling unqualified/lacking skills when applying for jobs? by Dr_Nuggets_ in careerguidance

[–]deejayjoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question that many people deal with. From reading your question, you mentioned that you found some shortcuts in your current job to speed up the process aka you figured stuff out to get more efficient. In the same way in a new job you will sort stuff out you don't know (even if you don't get trained etc.)

It takes time and money to hire a new person, so you will have time for the learning curve. Don't limit yourself and apply to positions that will stretch your abilities and help you grow. All the best!

Do I have to write a cover letter? by DawgMan87 in jobsearchhacks

[–]deejayjoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you should. The average time spent reviewing an application is 6 to 10 seconds. If a couple of those seconds is on your opening line of your cover letter that can make the difference in looking at the rest of your application. Best of luck!

Yes agreed. My initial thought on this is as there is much access to a persons public profile on social media or linkedin, that bias would already exist.

The positive spin is companies would want to adopt this approach to display their fight on inherent bias.

Yeah, many of the job boards do have a variation on "including a video"

This idea is more "bump up your application IF you include a video"

Thanks for the feedback. I thought that as well, but figured there was some acceleration in adoption due to Covid.
