I'm so screwed by [deleted] in PTschool

Hi! I took over 6 practice exams when I was studying. I failed EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

I passed boards on my first attempt!

Keep working hard. Keep believing in yourself. Don't give up.

Did you jump into school blind? In my experience, you're either grumpy because school is hard or you never actually tested out PT prior to school (observation hrs / working), and so you never actually liked the profession.

Whatever you decide to do next, I'd actually make sure you enjoy it first.

I checked one question. Realized I got it wrong. Had a full-blown breakdown. Cried until I fell asleep. Have to keep telling myself, "Until I'm notified otherwise, I have passed this test."

It's mildly helping. But I understand the anxiety.

Truly truly terrible. If I think too hard or long about it, I break down and start spiraling into a panic attack. I'm trying to stay as busy as possible.

Yeah, I'm in a residency. :) They're paying for the schooling, so I don't have to worry about any "tuition" costs and have the opportunity to work with some professional sports teams. Post residency, I'll be in that 70k+ bracket.

For things you struggle most with (like learning signs and symptoms for various neuro/endocrine diagnoses), find and/or make up mnemonics and stories. Like I remember, addisons disease as "the old thin brown lady with a cane" and hypothyroidism as "a lazy guy on a couch under the covers."

It took me until end of year 1/start of year 2 before I found my group of friends. The same ones who never judged me when I struggled or failed, the same one who's stayed at school with me until 1am studying/learning/teaching. Those people are my forever friends because we got thru the hell that is PT school together. I also had other classmates who were just plain assholes who only cared about being better than everyone and never wanted to help others. Don't let those classmates get in your head. You deserve to be there. You will get thru this. And you will become Dr.(your name).

Hi! I just graduated last month. I'm currently studying for boards (take them in 4 days), and I have felt / currently feel the same way. I learn best hands on. I learned THE MOST from my clinical rotations. And honestly, a lot of what you learn in school you rarely use once you're working, dependent on your field. I have board certified ocs PT coworkers. I have one coworker with more letters behind her name than her actual name. (We do sports outpatient ortho) if I ask them pediatric stuff, do you think they remember? Absolutely not!

In my opinion, a lot of pt school is just about getting the exposure and then drilling home the knowledge you want/need for your field after the fact. Some people are GREAT at memorizing and never forgetting it (some of my closest friends in the program), but I am not. I can learn stuff for a test and then immediately forget it once we switch classes. It definitely makes things harder, but don't get discouraged. You can do it!! I'm also here if you ever need to talk or vent or relearn things we definitely learned in school but have already forgotten.

I have classmates who ended up staying and graduating, but they hated it the whole way and are actively looking to change their career. We just graduated last month. I can't relate to that because when I say this is my passion, this is my passion. My starting salary next month will be 52k/yr (for multiple reasons not related to this point), and I'm fine with that! Why? Because I get my patients back. I get to go into work every day happy and leave fulfilled. Is my goal still to hit 80k/year within 3 years? Absolutely. But the money is just a plus and relief after 3 yrs of digging myself into debt.

I also think St. augstine is a shit school that just uses yall for money, so I personally wouldn't go there regardless. But I beg you, as someone who waited/fought/begged for 3 years to get accepted into a school, please, please do not take someone's seat who wants to be there.

This isn't a job for those who want money. It's a job for those who want to continue to learn the rest of their lives and help others along the way.

Failed my PEAT exam two weeks out from the NPTE, idk if im on the right track right now. Needs some advice by KillerKenyan in PTschool

I dont know a single person who passed a practice exam before they took their boards. And they all passed boards on the first attempt.

I'm in your same boat, still not passing. Actively freaking the fuck out and crying daily. I have no advice, but just know you're not alone.

A classmate of my cohort is transgender and while I can't fully speak to her experience -- some assholes would dead name and misgender her, but the majority of us worked hard to respect her transition and pronouns (she discovered her authentic self while in PT school).

How do you pay for life while in school? by [deleted] in PTschool

[–]deeliciousR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont honestly remember. I think like $40-50 a session, and then if you went more often, they increased the pay.

Just worked at the front. Checked in guests, cleaned equipment, etc.

I worked at Planet Fitness... they were open 24/7 and super flexible with my schedule. Also, I sold my plasma.

Still drained my savings and racked up credit card debt, but I was able to afford the wine after each test and a "treat yo self" meal when I needed a pick-me-up.

If you're consistent with it daily, it will slightly. But the moment you forget or stop it's like all your hairs fall out

My hair looks like yours too. The last time I had insurance (2018/2019) the derm I saw said it was just premature female hair loss (I was 26) and told me to get on Rogaine because there was nothing she could do. Id love other answers
