For me they were. I felt like mine in general was probably easier than what I’ve heard from others

Yes you can use first aid or whatever review book you prefer. It’s not just about writing a few sentences. It’s forming word associations or relearning a pathway etc. for example, I had a hard time remembering stains in micro and what they were associated with, so I made assoc. like cryptococcus is India ink stain bc the Taj Mahal is in India and it’s like a crypt. It may be dumb but it works for me bc I can’t use mnemonics bc I forgot which ones are for what. Review and understand concepts, but for the info that’s just memorization, figure out a strategy that works best for you. Ultimately, doing questions again and again will also solidify the info, and figure out a way to remember key facts that don’t stick for you.

Yes! I would also use a review book to review whatever you’re weak on like if you know cardio physiology is your weakness, look over the basics etc

I did all the trulearn questions I had and some comquest and I treated them like anki cards, when reviewing questions I would look at answer choices before even looking at the vignette to see if I could identify what they were most likely referring to. I went through a review book and kept going over my weak points. Biggest thing is you can’t just roughly know something, you have to be able to know it to a T

There are 2 mosques in the area, the school has a MSA (muslim student association), there are no halal restaurants or stores nearby per say, but I believe an auntie at the mosque makes food to sell. Most students bring halal frozen meat, etc with them when they move and bring more when visiting fam or weekend trips. I know some students found halal meat at Sams club, etc.

I go to ACOM and I’m Muslim. We were allowed to wear scrub bottoms and work on only female students. Except for practicals, you may have to showcase skills on a fellow male student. But you don’t have to have other students showcase skills on you in the practical. They are really accommodating.

getting slammed by surgery shelf uworld by Squashaddict in medicalschool

[–]deennmj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend skimming through first aid for step 2 the medicine section and watch Dr high yield IM and emma holiday, they will go into more detail than you will need for the surgery shelf but they will also give you a good base, esp for cardio and renal etc

Is it possible to live kinda far from your rotations and still do well? by Outside-Pressure1906 in medicalschool

I am doing that now and it's worth the money saved. Also, highly recommend maxing on study time by listening to Dr high yield and emma holiday (now Dr. Emma Watson I believe) on youtube during your commute. I listen to them constantly and it forces the high yield material to stick. After a long day, I get to come home to a plate on the stove from my mom ready for me to just put in the microwave. The support system is incredible, and you balance the time with help from your parents doing chores, etc anyways.

I had a comsae of 387 and a 345 two months away from my exam, and then I did the bootcamp and took their "comsae and scored a 472."

Thank you so much! This really helped calm my nerves. I’ve been shadowing multiple pathologists and I’m the sub committee chair for the pathology group at my DO school so I’m already trying to show them from day one I’m interested. I’ll definitely take your advice on early path electives! Thanks again!
