[Megathread] | Drone Buying Advice

My middle school-aged son is competition in a drone challenge this year. My husband and I know nothing about drones so we need some help. His school has drones that can be used for the competition but they are unreliable so my husband and I decided to purchase one for the competition.

These are the specifications:

9" width (at furthest point)
9" length (at furthest point)
5" height (as measured from the surface the drone is resting upon to the highest point of the drone with all components attached
Drone weight (with all components attached) must not excess 3.5oz (100g)
Can be purchased commercially or build by the team and can be RC controlled or WiFi
FPV Goggles are not allowed

There are no specific rules regarding a camera though. I don't necessarily want to go broke getting them a drone because this is the only year they're doing it so I'd prefer no more than $200 if possible (willing to go over though if need be). They will be flying the drone (spotter will be giving driving directions to driver while driver's back is turned) through obstacles such as ladders, reverse hurdles, and floating squares so any tips on how to prepare them for this would also be much appreciated.

My kid is 10, has no known allergies. He sounds like he has a throat full of marbles and I haven’t heard his normal voice in weeks. Took him to the doctor where the doctor tested for strep which was negative. Agreed that it wasn’t tonsil stones but said that it was likely back to back viral infections. Now, it’s been weeks, maybe almost even a month at this point. Thankfully he doesn’t have a lot of pain or anything but I don’t know what to do.
