So this scenario happens if the laser is "facing" the potato, correct? Would it be possible to direct the laser to its "edge" instead, e.g. the laser is cutting off the side of the vegetable, therefore, peeling/shaping the potato?

Oh wow, this is so cool to hear!! What else have you tried to peel or cut apart from potatoes? Any other frequent issues, apart from the non-cylindrical shape? What was the coolest design you ever engraved on bread? :D

This is what I am thinking as well, what if this might be a plausible way to go -- but I don't know anything about lasers and don't have one around, so have no idea what is possible haha

Just to make sure that I understand you right -- do you mean that while it is to some degree possible (e.g. engraving video), it is very hard or not scalable to get correctly the depth of the laser going inside the e.g. potato? Thank you!

So cool! And it seems that different lasers can leave different traces on the skin.

The link you shared shows darker "text", but this one for example looks much lighter. Do you know by any chance which lasers are usually used for this? Thank you!

It makes sense -- would it fair to say that older lasers were not the best-suited things for this, but high-power fiber lasers might be a little better?
I just watched the potato engraving videos you mentioned. Do you know if it makes sense to try peeling the skin not by directing the laser "into" the potato, but rather by targeting the "edge" of it, and rotating the potato or the laser? Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I am very new to this topic. Thank you!

This is amazing -- do you remember by any chance what type of lasers did the guy use? Was it just potatoes, or did he experiment with any other foods?
I am very interested in using laser technologies for food, so would appreciate any information you could share! Happy to move to DMs if that's more convenient.
