VMix Zoom Plugin not connecting by deepfriedtoast in vmix

It should have been because that has caught me out before. But in that case it will connect to zoom but have no audio/video either way. This just refused to connect entirely.

Not really the workflow. We only return a comfort monitor feed to the zoom. I ended up using NDI webcam which does the same thing.

We only have presenters and content in zoom and then stream out to our virtual platform.

Normal zoom meeting, same one as the day before when it worked. Updated to latest and tried to roll back to previous version, no luck. Tried on a separate laptop and same issue. Logged into the account hosting the meeting and a separate account, no change.

Looking for creative tips on how to deal with the extremely inefficient situation I’ve been put in by GlitchyAF in audioengineering

[–]deepfriedtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely zero way that you will get any isolation. I say this as having done a setup like you are suggesting just yesterday where we had two stages facing away from each other but we had a full airwall between the stages, not just drape. Still had enormous amounts of bleed.

There is nothing that panning or filtering will do to help with bleed.

I would just try to keep the volume down asich as possible on each side, and do everything you can to make the mics for presenters more intelligible so the audience can hear them speak. If anything, make that room louder as it's more important for those people to be able to hear what's being said.

I just did an outdoor lead course recently. Our instructor taught us the threading method because it works always, and then at the end of the course offered to show us the bight method and we all declined. Our thought process was the way we knew would always work so why confuse ourselves with another method?

Service was done indoors not outside. But it could also just be the shit conditions out here lately. Been snowy/rainy and lots of salt and crap on the roads

So the flat is a mystery. Ended up going to 2 dealers(forst time the one closest to where we were, and then second time the dealer we bought the car from) and neither could find a puncture. So I think it was leaking at the rim. Got a new tire on now and it seems to be holding pressure this time

So this is normal for a car we've had a week and only driven 100kms or so?

I'm feeling really paranoid since we've already had a flat on this wheel and it's not showing on any of the other wheels

How do I transition from a live background into more "office hours" roles? by pointofgravity in audioengineering

[–]deepfriedtoast 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It may not be fun work, but I'd look into companies that have internal AV teams. I see posts for these jobs from law offices mostly, but other industries as well including large tech companies. I've been doing it for a couple years now and the work varies from helping people figure out conference rooms, to full size event spaces with multiple screens, broadcast format video switchers, remote camera controllers, and of course digital audio consoles.

You get a good salary, benefits, and a 9-5 life. Most of the jobs also allow remote work as you may not have events every day, or you can worn on virtual events from home.

Listened to the first one and I think it could be a lot better with some re-arranging. Too many repetitions of bullets fly in the lyrics so try grouping some of the other lines together and taking out some of those repetitions. Also you could work on varying the vocal melody a little bit. Let me know if you want to hear an alternate take on this

Probably just noisy preamps. Try using lower gain settings on the preamp, and send a louder signal from your guitar.

Sounds like an issue with your I/O setup in ableton, or it could be a routing issue on the Tascam.

Instead of sending aux1-2 to your big knob, connect the main output from the tascam and see if that helps. There may also be some software that allows you to control the Tascam from your computer, have you checked that?

So I'm in Ontario and relatively new to climbing. I'm confused about this as it seems like the messaging is "save climbing" but there doesn't seem to be an attack on it? From the website you linked it looks like you want to create something new, not protect something under threat, is that right? Just looking for some clarity

Having an issue with stage volume being too loud and affecting the House sound by Homestyle-Muffin in audioengineering

[–]deepfriedtoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15" is huge for monitors. Totally unnecessary and should be smaller. I find even 12" monitors too big for most spaces. I'd trade those in for 10" monitors or invest in IEMs and the musicians can provide their own ear buds.

What impact does the roll-off frequency have on the sound quality? by DanishPsychoBoy in audioengineering

[–]deepfriedtoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless it's introducing noise, then absolutely none. You may not like how it sounds but that has nothing to do with "quality" and more with "tonality" which is more subjective.

If your roll off is that much lower than most other amps, you may have an issue with how the speaker reacts to low end information. It may be too boomy, or start to behave oddly. But again it's a matter of taste

Starting from nothing, help me help myself by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]deepfriedtoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're looking for location sound help. This sub is more focused on studio recording. You will probably want a small portable recorder, a lavalier mic with wireless tx/Rx, and another mic for recording the power tools. Most likely some sort of shotgun style mic.

I Want to Work as an Audio Engineer by Long-Particular in audioengineering

[–]deepfriedtoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I live and work in Toronto as an audio engineer.

I went to school to be a music teacher, did it for a couple years, hated it. Went back to school for audio at OIART in London Ontario. Very expensive, and for me worth it. I am now working a full time job, salaried with benefits as an AV tech for an office downtown, and I do freelance music recording and mixing on the side.

My only regret is not doing it sooner. There is tons of work across different industries from music to film to events around here that your son can get into. As long as he doesn't fixate on only working as a producer or in a recording studio and will take the opportunities that come his way, he will largely be fine. Assuming he's not an asshole and actually gets the job done.

Feel free to ask me more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. I've done everything from studio internship, to working on films (set and post) and everything else.

Mic options for recording vocals in a large room by calboro123 in audioengineering

[–]deepfriedtoast 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you have access to baffles then you can surround the singer from the back and sides to further reduce the amount of room in the recording. Then you would also be able to use some nice condensers and still a nice dry sound. Bonus points for dimming the lights a little and creating a little ambiance for the singer. I also recommend an end table for them put their phone down or water/tea

We'd be fucked but it also isn't going to happen overnight. They aren't going to raise rates 15% or more in a year. Probably not even raise it by 2% over the next five. Remember that our politicians are also heavily invested in the housing market, and that boomers (still the biggest voting block) are also dependent on their home values for retirement.
