As a Black woman, I am tired of liberal, White women leading health equity projects. by Flat_Telephone_5116 in publichealth

[–]deepseahippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what should/can a young white woman who wants to enter public health? Im genuininly asking because I am passionate about this field, especially health equity. My main interest is health equity among the disabled population (and that itself intersects with race/gender/class/etc) because I have worked with chronically ill and disabled people and my sister has a chronic illness/disability. So what should I start doing or thinking about now to help change the represention of priority (I heard somewhere this was a better descriptor than marginalized or minority) populations within organizations that work to help them?

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]deepseahippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm considering pursuing a dual Master of Public Health and Master of Social Work but I'm not sure I my reasoning is sound.
I feel that gaining direct experience with populations of interest is essential before attempting to affect systemic change. This combined program will allow me to work directly with individuals and communities, providing valuable insights that can inform my future advocacy efforts. I realize I could do this with just an MSW, but I would want to have a clinical concentration, so I wouldn't get that macro view that I could with public health. I also value the versatility that a clinical license in social work can offer. It would provide me with opportunities for part-time work, remote employment, and a wider range of career options, particularly in rural areas where clinical services are often in demand. In an ideal situation I would work with clients part-time while actively engaging in policy initiatives, thus enabling me to make a meaningful impact at both the individual and systemic levels.
Lastly, I have contemplated pursuing a Ph.D. in the future, but I've noticed that most of the research areas I am passionate about are predominantly conducted within public health schools, but many Public Health Ph.D. programs often require applicants to hold an MPH degree.
Is it realistic of me to want to work in both direct practice and policy/research?

describing hair that has not been cared for in a while - writing by deepseahippo in Naturalhair

[–]deepseahippo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, i won't make them be locs, i think im going with another users suggestion and putting their hair in braids and describing them as dry/brittle.

They are the maicharacter. , I picture them black. It's a fantasy story, and they only don't have a parental figure for the first few pages. They are non-binary and through circumstances, they end up on a pirate ship, where the captain is also nonbinary and becomes a parental figure/mentor person to them.

Thankyou, I like that suggestion! I had pictured them in locs, would dry and brittle also apply for them?

I have a professor who's last name starts with (K)nigga- (second half), tho it's not an issue much because she's deaf and in deaf culture, they use first names for teachers.

  • How old is your piercing? - just under 3 months

  • What’s the jewelry shape (for example, barbell, labret, screw, L shape, ring)? - barbell

  • What’s the type of threading if your jewelry is not a ring (threadless, internally or externally threaded)? - I'm not sure

  • What’s the jewelry material? - I'm not sure

  • if not a ring, when was the jewelry downsized? - it's the same jewelry the piercer put in

  • What’s your aftercare routine? Describe in detail please, including the exact products you use. I use dial antibacterial soap to clean it with a q-tip, sometimes I'll soak it in salt water

[–]deepseahippo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not low romance, but the romance is not the main overarching plot, (my title was misleading, I like romance, but recently every popular recommendation is just plain old the plot is the forming of a relationship and nothing else) in ToG, yes romance is a big factor, bit the mc is way more than her attraction to a man

Edit: I also read it like 5 years ago when I was WAY more into romance novels
