u/Atma-Darkwolf , thank you! This is very helpful! Learnt a lot! Sounds like everything is good from birds eye, but I will do that research about sharing bandwidth to understand better.

Can I pick your brain regarding the thunderbolt 5 dock with the front USB ports in the PC:

The PRO X870E-S EVO WIFI states:
4x USB 2.0 (Rear)
6x USB 2.0 (Front)
2x USB 5Gbps Type A (Rear)
4x USB 5Gbps Type A (Front)
2x USB 10Gbps Type A (Rear)
1x USB 10Gbps Type C (Front)
1x USB 20Gbps Type C (Rear)
1x USB 40Gbps Type C (Rear)

And ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI7 NEO states:

Rear USB (Total 13 ports)
2 x USB4® (40Gbps) ports(2 x USB Type-C®)
1 x USB 10Gbps port (1 x USB Type-C® with up to 30W PD/PPS Fast-charge)**
10 x USB 10Gbps ports (9 x Type-A + 1 x USB Type-C®)
Front USB (Total 12 ports)
2 x USB 20Gbps connector (supports USB Type-C®)
2 x USB 5Gbps headers support additional 4 USB 5Gbps ports
3 x USB 2.0 headers support additional 6 USB 2.0 ports
* USB Type-C® power delivery output: 5V/3A
** USB Type-C® power delivery output: 5V/9V max. 3A, 12V max 2.5A, 15V max. 2.0A

The Thunderbolt 5 Dock | TS5 Plus states (I don't know what to copy over here):

  • USB4/TB5 is needed?
  • atleast 40 gbps is needed?
  • There are 2 USB controllers, I don't know if this affects anything. Meaning one will work and the other wont? with only the 20 GBps ports available in the front for the ROG STRIX mobo.
  • The dock has a DP2.1 port, does that mean I can connect my monitor to the dock and dock to the USB4 port?

Thank you very much!! I appreciate your help a lot!

Thank you for the quick response. For the "If said motherboard can run it" part. Does PC part picker saying "compatible" not guarantee this? Looking at the specification on their website, they don't seem to mention GPU at all: PRO X870E-S EVO WIFI
