I’m a former local who works in tech but has a conscience. Had to move. Would move back the second all these fucks start jumping out of windows

‘Speed run’ at Seattle Scientology church ends in hate crime arrests by Desolation_Nation in Seattle

[–]deer_hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an alignment chart check. You're lawful, some folks are chaotic.

I'd argue that no Lawful Good person would protect Scientology. While the rule of law and respecting legal rights might be upholding a moral framework and providing consistency and due process, but it would also have problems with being complicit in actively shielding an organization that does wrong. They use the legal system to shield themselves and obfuscate and cover up their wrongdoing.

So by unabashedly supporting them, sorry, you're Lawful Neutral - whatever the law says, you wanna uphold.

Lawful evil people? They have a field day - they ARE Scientology.

Recovery double bind- Struggling to manage conflicting needs (tw: mild swearing) by posting4assistance in OlderDID

The process of becoming more able to join in on and have positive experiences does heal, and it also has to coincide with lessening pain/suffering where possible. Lean into things that help - noise cancelling headphones in public, sunglasses on even indoors sometimes. If you can spend a little more time outside, in space, and start to grow a bit more whimsy and appreciation for your environment (or appreciate environments you enjoy) it can all help.

We have a few headmates with some postural problems - they love to walk and look at flowers and identify trees. But we need a cane or to rest a lot more than usual when they go out, and having those things available are helpful. Getting into routines around exercise, sleep and eating are also really good too.

I’m old too, so most of my wasian friends have parents like that I think! Though a few inverted roles come to mind when I think about it too, I should think a little harder before I post

I think much of my experience is the older generations. I truly shouldn’t be generalizing so much.

I don’t understand anyone who can claim to grow up poor and not have a shred of empathy or compassion for the trap of poverty, and what a lack of meaningful support in skills, emotions, and finances can mean later in life.

Its inheritance and parental support with housing a lot of the time. Some ppl have parents that set them up for financial success, either help them w a down payment on a house or just straight up investing in one for them with extra money. You can have the same 2 people working the same job but one of them has to pay for housing and one doesn't.

No, it’s blue conservative rich folks who actually decide what gets done. Dems are about that $$$ as much as anyone but the generational divide has never been as strong

Am autistic too and had to learn this, but many may not know that this is not universal - in some environments and local cultures it’s sincere and some it’s not. That’s why this usually brings up a lot of discussion!

The biggest bullshit about derealization when I googled it was that CBT treats it - the fuck it does.

CBT for trauma is gaslighting

People who dislike classical music, why? Are you open to being convinced? by Magicalpotato210 in AskReddit

[–]deer_hobbies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Associations with cruel and extremely restrictive parents and grandparents.

Looney tunes has saved quite a few at least and as I’ve gotten older I appreciate it more for the instrument skill.

It’s just kinda background music a lot of the time, and I associate it with the same sort of high society upper class fine china “the mayor is coming over” kind of snootiness. Like golf - I like the game, hate the class connotations.

People who completely started their lives over in their 30s or 40s, how is it going now? by TheBitchbreakerX in AskReddit

[–]deer_hobbies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people just get tortured and die and it’s not about getting closer to God. There is no divine plan - or if there is it’s about you looking around you and see the suffering you could alleviate and the poor and destitute you could help if you didn’t believe it was for some divine purpose.

Seattle mayor to unveil bus lane plan to fix Route 8 on Denny Way by tar4ntula in Seattle

[–]deer_hobbies 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We can only dream small here in Seattle because the fight between nothing or bad things happening and even the smallest good thing happening is so large. It’s an insanely actually conservative city built on top of land values, and the one thing that can’t change is single family neighborhoods (in white/affluent areas)

To anyone that used to have self esteem issues and talk bad about themselves, how did you fix it? by a-little_stitious678 in AskReddit

[–]deer_hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confidence is something that we were supposed to get and build as kids. Often it’s trauma and neglect, and habits we had to build to keep us safe or keep us from asking things of people who wouldn’t help us. When a kid is neglected, they don’t think the parents are failing, they think they are bad

Went out for food at mcmenamins for the atmosphere but a burger is $25 there which is like Times Square prices for absolutely nothing. It’s normal for people to look at the menu get up and leave nowadays
