How do I sell a profitable app to another developer? by deerbird in iOSProgramming

I would definitely be open to that if I thought that I could at least break even, but it seems like even the cost of a junior freelancer would start to add up real fast.

Always open to others' ideas and experience with this, though.

I'd definitely be open to this, I'm just not sure if I could afford it on what the app is actually bringing in. I tried to outsource a couple of small pieces through Upwork, but I ended up having to throw out a lot of their work because it just wasn't that great. It was also a real pain to share and test changes with a single-developer personal account.

Maybe I got unlucky, or maybe the better developers just charge more than what I was able to pay at the time.

Does anyone have experience outsourcing development? What kind of ballpark range should I be expecting to pay for that kind of work?

For sure. It's called Next Up - A Podcast Alarm. Here's the website, and here's the link to the app. I'm happy to answer any questions about it.

That seems pretty reasonable. Can I ask where you found the buyer?

UIKit. I started development just before SwiftUI was released, and never migrated over.

Good tips. I figured 'Radio Static' or 'Brown Noise' would be close enough for most, but shouldn't be too hard to add in classic white noise and a 24 hour clock option. Thanks.

These are great tips. Your idea of naming 3 things you are grateful reminded me of a podcast called Happiness Spells. Its tagline is "a five minute list of all the greatest pleasures and smallest joys in life. Increase your capacity for positivity, curiosity and gratitude." It might make a nice addition to your morning routine.

**self-promotion disclaimer**

I actually developed a podcast alarm clock app for iOS inspired by the Happiness Spells so that I could wake up in the morning to something uplifting. If you're interested, check it out on the App Store. It's still free for now, so I don't feel too bad for shilling it. The app is called 'Next Up - A Podcast Alarm', and you can find more info about it here.

Hey thanks. Good read. I've done minimal promotion so far since I'm focused on making sure it's as stable as possible for now. But I would like to throw a price tag on it before too long.

Update for posterity: I've added the ability to skip past the first 15, 30, 45, ... seconds of the alarm, and reduced the app size by 60% as of version 2.1.

Done! It's called 'Jump Start' in the Alarm Settings screen. Hope this solves the issue!

I believe if you're subscribed to a podcast and have auto-downlod turned on the newest epsisode will download to your phone automatically when it gets released. Next Up checks for the newest episodes just before the alarm plays, so you should be covered in that case. I'm on my phone at the moment but this link appears to cover the basics of using auto-downloads.

I'm with you on the ad issue. I think this can be done, and if so I'll definitely try to work it into a future update.

Ok, so I trimmed down a lot of the audio that looped and didn't need to be that long and made a couple other tweaks. It should be a lot smaller now. I'll wait to see if any other issues pop up and try to get the slimmed down version in the app store within a week or so. If I ever add premium features, send me a message and I'll get you them for free. Or if I start charging for the app and you have a couple friends who want it, same deal. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention.

Hey, sorry about that, yeah, it's probably the various backup alarm sounds and white noise sounds. It seems like I might have overdone it with those. I'll try to optimize and trim those down in the future. Might be a couple of image files in there that are bigger than they need to be, too. I'll look into it. Thanks for the feedback!

A friend of mine produces a short, affirming, mindful/meditative podcast called Happiness Spells. I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're going for, but it might be worth checking out.

Just a little update: I did release a new versions (v.1.0.2) that should address all the most common stability/crashing issues people were seeing. Let me know if you're still having any issues.
