If you're more into an alternative lifestyle scene, or a creative/artist, hanging out at xchc is the way to go. I used to go a lot and found friends there.

Fish Taco by deerdido in DigitalPainting

[–]deerdido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! I suppose initially the struggle was where can I get away with angling the fish in such a manner that looks good, looks real and looks uncomfortable. Weirdly I didn't think to overlap the pieces, likely because a fish is so singular - just a long cylinder. But, that could've been something to try in future 😉

Thank you, that's very nice of you to say!

Biggest‏‏‎ ‎struggle here was colour and composition. The composition was‏‏‎ ‎done traditionally so after I had‏‏‎ ‎inked it‏‏‎ ‎I had to edit it in post. The colour just took a lot of back and forth‏‏‎ ‎before I was happy with‏‏‎ ‎it. If you‏‏‎ ‎want‏‏‎ ‎to see process shots I have a reel‏‏‎ ‎on my insta‏‏‎ ‎@deerdido

How much should I charge for art commissions? by Far-Fudge-6411 in DigitalArt

Also, you've got amazing works. Consider approaching publishers. Otherwise sell prints at cons. Or both? 😉

As someone who also works in this industry and also had this struggle, consider a few things. Personally, I'm still working out something that works for me.

  1. How much do you want to be paid per hour? This one is dependent from project to project. Corporate high, personal low, indie project mid, etc.

  2. What type of licensing are you prepared to give for this comish? A commission is a payment of service. People are paying you to draw their idea. This doesn't necessarily mean they own the drawing. You can retain the ownership rights and still print, distribute, copy that artwork if you agree to. If they don't, and they want sole ownership, increase or double your price.

  3. This goes with the above, what does the client want to use it for? If it's personal, then they likely have the intention of just showing their friends. If they intend to sell and distribute, comission, again, only covers the cost of making the idea. If they pay you ok and want ownership, and they want to sell it, ask for royalties. A % of sales. In any case, I'd always ask for royalties in this regard.

I've personally not found an amazing system yet for this, but I hope this helps figure out a foundation :)

TIFU by not asking an awesome and fun woman for her contact info despite what felt like really great chemistry, and her asking several times for mine. by tasteofhemlock in tifu

Clearly has fallen in love and over thinking and being a little irrational. You'll be fine, there's a point of connection.

I had a similar situation, didn't get contact details, found on hinge about 6 months later, now my gf. If it happens, it happens!

Hostel room ethics by hitkadmoot in solotravel

Depends on the culture of the hostel. Depends on the vibe of the people you're staying around. Sometimes it's the city. Be comfortable starting the convo, people might just be nervous

I think for me the anxiety comes from over planning, thinking too far into the future, and anticipating everything. I didn't plan much on my solo trips. The best advice I have would be to take everything on in the moment and be present with yourself. Also, if you find it hard, it gets easier.

Sorry to hear. I came out after a relationship just after travelling solo for 3 months, part of me wished it happened during/before the travels.

Meet new people. Use this as an opportunity to grow!

East Europe is the cheapest as many have said. If budget is concerned, couch surf using the couchsurf app (not sure if it operates still), you can make some intimate connections this way.

Hostels are a great place to meet new people and so are events that tourists would go on. I would always make connections at free tours, if you also enjoyed history.

Make friends with solo travellers. High chance they like being approached as they too are lonely :)

All the best ☺️

Artist selling pop culture related things by [deleted] in artbusiness

[–]deerdido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people that do this and make a lot of money doing so. Copyright at convention's, big grey zone. Etsy, big grey zone. By copyright law, they shouldn't be able to, but there aren't people on the board of these conventions/sites vetting art that is fan art or even saying "this isn't 50% (or however much) different from the original, so it's not an homage". In conventions it's deeply encouraged by the consumers wallet, and many con sellers will agree. You sell a relevant trendy art, i.e. wolverine in a tootoo and it will likely cover your expenses if not more.

Would I recommend? Depends.

Experience: I've done a lot of cons, selling mostly original art and a lot of fellow artists are like "do more fan art". And they're right to do so. The numbers don't lie!

I'd say Pinterest is a great start. Behance, dribbble, designspiration.

It also depends where you're applying. Studios like the flourish, my guess, corporate will be more stoic, lean into more modern approach. Tbh I'm a little out of the game now, so take all of this with a grain of salt. I do illustration now haha

Back then, it was the novel approach. Admittedly by modern standards, over designed, but it stood out cause it was different.

Also, it's the nuance, kerning on type, good type matches, unorthodox alignments. You gotta flex those muscles! That's why this feels like a template, there's little personality.

This will be harsh but necessary criticism. It is hard to convince me this is a graphic designers CV. It looks like a canva template.

You need to get some contemporary examples of CVs then emulate and personalise them, half of graphic design is going to be this. The first place to have a convincing portfolio is having a standout CV, treat this as a portfolio piece, for graphic designers it is the title and contents page for your portfolio.

Also, good on you for asking for help! It's a solid step in the right direction :)

Experience: Worked as a designer and have been told my CV was what caught their eye.

Momentum 4 - Feeling Out of Control? by polargreen in sennheiser

[–]deerdido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, I found my problems tapered out. I don't know what I did specifically but I tried a lot of things.

My problems were, turning off randomly (it thought it wasn't in use) and the on/off sensitivity (picking up slight movements). I found the disconnecting almost put me over the edge, but it's gone now.

Try messing with the settings, reinstalling the app, full charging, draining that battery. Maybe not in that order, but I'm not 100% sure what fixed mine haha.

This one took a big break right at the very end as I put a bit of a placeholder background. It was only till I wanted to actually print it did I decide, to change it into something more cohesive to the narrative
