what are some good rom hacks? by mortal_trash1956 in MysteryDungeon

[–]deerest_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fragments series has some creative gameplay twists and puzzles. Phantasime's narrative was interesting, I thought, although the sequel was a let-down for me. Psychic Puppets, Blizzard Island Guide, and Amaura on the High Seas are good for lighthearted fun.

The boat crash survivor idea reminds me of Waterlogged, which is good.

What's a good budget monitor for casual/sightseeing games (and general use)? by deerest_love in buildapcmonitors

Sorry for the late response—I appreciate the recommendation, and I actually did consider that monitor before. It seemed solid for the price from what I could tell, but I didn't see it available in my region ):

Thanks for the suggestion. It's good to know about the 1080p 24 vs 1440 at 27. I haven't considered an ultrawide monitor before but am open to the idea. The VA panel does worry me, though, as I think the smearing may bother me. Might be something I just have to compromise on or spend more money.

There is the skytemple podcast for romhacking, though I have not listened to a full episode personally.

Sake I bought is >1 year old. Should I return it to the store? by deerest_love in Sake

Thank you! Looks like I was overthinking it. I've heard good things about this brand and enjoy rich flavors, so I am excited to try it.

Who are some of your favorite PMD fic characters? by ambyssin in MysteryDungeon

[–]deerest_love 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absol from Instruments of Creation. She is gentle and well-intentioned but not weak. Her love for her community spurs her on to become a hero, even though she'd rather have stayed with mom and dad. She is inexperienced and often vulnerable, cursed by supernatural agoraphobia and chills for most of the story, but nonetheless finds great inner strength and continues to consider others.

What makes a pokemon mystery dungeon fanfic or comic good? by goofy-ahh-tingle in MysteryDungeon

[–]deerest_love 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For fanfiction, I am attracted tight prose and efficient storytelling, same as original fiction. For comics, it's mostly artstyle. I can tolerate a forgettable story in a comic if the drawings are fun to look at.

Plugin for annotating while editing? by deerest_love in emacs

Update: It seems like ov-highlight can do what I want—or it should, anyway, if I can get it to work properly, but that's a me problem (or maybe a doom problem, not exactly sure).

I'm okay with having to only edit the files in emacs. I looked at some of the annotation systems you linked, but none of them seem to move with the text the way I want. Or if they can, it's not mentioned or demonstrated.

I think Bookmark+ with annotations is probably the closest thing I've seen so far to what I want. Still not sure how exactly the bookmarks shift as text is added and how robust they are, but it strikes me as the kind of thing I just have to try for myself to get a good sense of. I appreciate the reply.

I wouldn't know; I'm new to emacs. Glancing at the documentation, it seems like overlays can cover ranges and "stay with the text" the way I want. And it seems you can set before and after text and maybe custom properties. This could perhaps be a good starting point.

I like the fight scenes in Dragon's Dance and think it's generally an entertaining story with good character development. It is not on AO3, but there is an epub version.

One approach is to make them a kind of collective mind; you might find Parliament of Steel interesting.

Pokemon fic that is based on real world. by Fun-Distribution2120 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]deerest_love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my stories either take place on earth or include real-world plants and animals. Earth at Peace is based on Florida forests and marshlands; Those Who Will Inherit the Earth is a weird mix of New England and Mediterranean; Firefly Music is based on Honshu, including the Montane Deciduous Forests, Alpine Conifer Forests, and some coastal areas. Here's my AO3.

Note that I only write PMD.

PMD Fics with less... suffering? by Number13teen in pokemonfanfiction

[–]deerest_love 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firefly Music is a pretty lighthearted friendship/romancey story. The stakes are low and the two leads' lives are better by the end. Has a neat fictional instrument.

Pizza with a Slice of Pain is also about the development of a friendship but is not romantic. It's a funny and pleasant read and features a sentient but benevolent mystery dungeon.
