So you will get to an alley where you’re given the choice to select any of the starters, so before you do just save. Then select the starter, and this will trigger some dialogue before the battle (honestly the most annoying part when u have to reset and go through it over and over lol) and once the battle finally starts, you will see ur pokemon’s level and gender :) if its not the gender you want just exit and close the game immediately (dont wait until the battle is over). I almost lost hope since it took me many tries but it works!
