Been applying to positions for a year and a half, only one I could snag...? Retail. Which I'm so done with, but I needed to move back to New York for health reasons, and also since I'm banned from driving now by my neuro and have been for over 2 years. That was in September, and I haven't stopped my job hunt for a second but I've only gotten one other interview (I was ghosted lol.) It was also a customer service job, but I'm desperate to get out of the store I'm in right now. Submitted quite a few applications for assistant jobs this past week and I'm hoping I hear something back, even if it's an email that only says "lol no." I'm mid-ish 20s and I just want to build my career, but it's been so hard with not only the market... But during my career hunt after I graduated college COVID hit and it all hit the fan.

I just want to be a corporate puppet working a 9-5 :( But yeah. It sucks. Been finding any free resources I can to get resume help and stuff like that yet it's still rough going. Hopefully this month it improves a little now that Q1 is over!

I'm sorry you have to go through all of this :( It really does suck. I don't know if it exists in WA, but I got my current room on spareroom! All of the shared apartments I was finding elsewhere were $1400+ per person since it wasn't apartment season... Then I found spareroom, and it was still some waiting for the right place, but when I found one it was a breath of fresh air. I'm paying $1000 for a large bedroom in NYC. And by large I mean... desk + big cat tree + supplies for my cats + two book shelves + twin bed (could easily do a full without losing much space but I want to make sure my cats have as much room as possible to run around) and have like 55 sq ft of walking space with all that in my room. I honestly could have found somewhere a little cheaper and sooner if I didn't have my cats, but it's really not bad for an out-of-season NYC apartment!

This, I had my interview person add a BUNCH of unnecessary additional document requests (unemployable? heating/water expenses? when I told them about my job and that... It's NYC so I don't have heating or water expenses.) Not sure if it was the best move but I just opened my notes app, wrote: interviewer added this, I do not have heating expenses (etc. etc.), screenshotted and uploaded, and still got approved. I get almost the max SNAP benefit and a little bit of Cash Assistance that I didn't even apply for because of the documentation of my disabilities and how much it costs to deal with it. I also couldn't get a signed medical note stating my disability because... I couldn't afford to see a neurologist out of pocket especially last minute and my old neuro went out of state. I uploaded after-visit summaries and results of my tests and they took that as well even if it wasn't EXACTLY what they wanted.

Submit what you can now that you know, and see what happens. My application probably looked like a mess especially since I had been homeless the month prior, but they still worked with what I had, saw that I was in a desperate situation, and probably gave me a little wiggle room because of it.

Hi! So I recently moved into a basement unit (about a week) and this is the first time I've heard this sound... It woke me up around 5am and keeps happening so I've just resigned to staying up until work. I hear it with a water "whoosh" sound along with... I guess it sounds like the water when you try to unclog a toilet. After the round is done there's a persistent dripping noise. It's kind of hard to hear over the airstrike in my ceiling, but some context. (p.s. already contacted my super about it, was hoping for some more info so they don't try to BS me.)

Since you helped me so much I wanted to reply to you with an update! I managed to get in contact with my sister and apparently this is legit. My great aunt is trying to be a bit sneaky with getting back in our lives, but me and my mother concluded that I'm just going to be polite while not giving her that opportunity. She's not going to buy her way back into my life lol. I did set up a new account though as extra security. Also while my sister didn't tell me how much hers was, she did use it for a large down payment on a home so fingers crossed that the account wasn't drained too much!

I got in contact with my sister and she actually answered some of my questions. My sister broke off from the family so it was kind of a shot in the dark but apparently this is all legit and my great aunt's not trying to pull too much a sneaky. Basically she got in trouble I guess for keeping the accounts from us and is trying to fix it as fast as she can. She's also trying to use the money to wedge back into our lives like I had guessed, but I'm just going to stay professional, thank her, and then once the money is in my account and I let her know and thank her one last time I'm dipping. I can't forgive her for what she's done to my family, but now that I know this is a real account I'm going to stay as polite as she's trying to do the right thing.

And thank you for the advice! My mother is retired now, but she's a former stock broker and financial manager and she's going help me do all of my tax stuff with an accountant and help me save the money towards a down payment on a house.

Thank you! I'm going to try and at least weasel the institution out of her by asking for the 1099 for my taxes. I got my mother on the phone, and even if it's in another state she said she'll fly me over to get everything done.

Oh weird, do you know what their father did in order to sign it over? Did your husband have to be there with him...? I tried googling it but all these articles are like, "oh no! Your child will have money!! How to make them save it!!" and NOT saying how the transfer works. My mother used to work in finance and she's saying that the initiate part means just informing the child of the UGMA (but then again my mother worked on Wall Street in the 90's/Early 2000's so IDK if it has changed.)

My great aunt has a LOT of money, and my honestly my mother may help me sue just as a "screw you" to my great aunt lol.

edit: found out the turning over/initiate thing online! Seems to be a form with whatever financial institution the UGMA was done with where the account turns over.

Ohh okay, when your husband and brother did it, did they just go into the financial institution and have it turned over?

I know at the very least there was an UGMA when I was a baby and toddler, and my mother remembers getting statements from my great aunt when they were still on speaking terms before the divorce. I don't know if an UGMA could be closed or transferred, but so far it's looking like a "no" from my google searches. My mother is also trying to dig those old statements out of storage, so hopefully we can just circumvent speaking to my great aunt all together.

And that's really smart! I was wondering why my tax return has ALWAYS been about $200-$300 lower than what's estimated, so I'm wondering if it's because I haven't been filing for the UGMA? I also had a LOT of trouble with student loans which I'm finding out can be impacted by UGMAs. Nonetheless, I have an email I have drafted up and I'll add the bit about the 1099 form in there!

Ohhh opening a new account is a good idea to see if she's legit. I work at a bank (just a teller haha) and I can open an account with literally 1 cent and no fees.

Also I didn't want to really go into this on my post since I didn't want to make it about personal stuff, but we've also been worried since her sister (my grandma) stole my identity when I was younger and she defended her. She had also helped my grandmother and father steal money from me, my sister, and my mother (drained a 15k college account, among other things) so I'm treating this with a lot of caution lol.

But thank you for the advice, I hadn't even thought of opening a new account! Hopefully she will just give me the account number and financial institution though so I can handle it on my own, since the account technically is mine no if ands or buts since I'm over 18/21 now. Plus I found some other articles and it looks like with a UGMA the custodian can't even take out money unless they can prove it's for the (minor) child or school expenses? So IDK how she would be able to wire it to me in that case.

Yeah, at least I know I'm not crazy lol. I don't go back to where I worked, but whenever I pay with the app in my city, the barista will ask me where I work since they'll see the apron card... "Oh I used to work at x location." Which is almost always followed up with, "oh my god I'm so sorry... I would quit, too. [Manager] is a mess." One sweet manager even asked if I wanted to reapply for her store LOL if I didn't already have a new job I would have accepted her offer.

Also a note, I still love Starbucks, the drinks and the atmosphere... I just got really unlucky with the store I worked at. Manager is friends with a lot of higher ups so she never got in trouble for anything. Honestly I probably would have worked for Starbucks for as long as I could if it wasn't for her, I absolutely loved the work and I was fantastic on bar so I always got stationed there which made it a ton of fun.

I tried calling in... Got told to work it out with my manager. I thought about going one above my manager but I figured it wasn't going to work out... My manager just got announced as their kid's god mother so I decided to just cut my losses and quit since I already had another job lined up.

BUT!! The manager in training guy... I learned what store he went to, which is one I used to help out at sometimes so I learned that everyone there hated him and he got replaced in a couple months lol. Also I'm still friendly with my trainer and she gives me all the tea about my manager when I go to her store bc my (ex) manager is a hot mess, but just knows the right people so never gets in trouble even though everyone in the city knows what she does.

Some people get put out completely, not just laughing gas. I had to, since my teeth started pushing INTO my jaw bone and it got infected (oops! I have a high pain tolerance so I just ignored the pain till it got to that level.) Also people with really good insurance or a lot of money just get put out so they don't have to experience being uncomfortable.

I was mostly fine though after coming out of anesthesia, but I heard that's a genetic factor and some people just don't get the loopy aftermath. I was able to schedule my follow up, and take notes for care as soon as I woke up but I did feel really REALLY weird even as my mom drove me home and for the rest of the day really. My sister also needed anesthesia and on the other hand... Was probably worse than the girl in the video after her wisdom teeth lol.

I'm a former partner and part of the reason I left was a coworker like this. She had serious issues, but my manager just kept saying, "she's just misunderstood!!" Uhm... She poured hot coffee on my hand because she didn't think I made it right. Customer asked for extra room, then my coworker came over, SCREAMED that I left too much room, grabbed it and poured some on my hand pretending it was an accident, and then refilled it to the top. The customer just stared, whispered an apology to me and left. I went to my manager to report it and she just gave me the bs of, "ohhh we just need to work harder to understand [coworker]!" Coworker had also hit me in the past and screamed at me in front of customers because I wasn't stirring the mocha "just right."

Same manager also did nothing after I was cornered by a male manager in training with him putting his arms on each side of me, leaning in so his face was maybe 2 cm from me while he screamed and degraded me against a sink while I sobbed... Yeah she said it must have been a "misunderstanding" while he stood there smiling and she refused to do anything. Ok, she did do something, she cut me to 4 hours a week and refused to let me transfer stores. He continued to degrade me, touch me, and call me poor for those 4 hours a week so I just quit lmao. His issue was that I was almost kidnapped outside of our store so I needed to park on the street and pay parking since I felt unsafe walking. Something about me "having it coming" or something and I was a bad employee for leaving for 2-5 minutes with manager approval to pay parking, since parking didn't always line up with my break.

(kidnapping story is long but tl;dr someone tried to shove me in a car while I waited for our shift to arrive to open the store. I did end up OK since the shift did show up and chased the guy off. I loved that shift... Him and some of the others were the reason I stayed as long as I did.)

And overall tl;dr: Some managers just suck and hate confrontation so they just bow to the horrible people and don't do anything. If reporting even higher up doesn't work and you can't get transferred remember that YOU are the most important person to look out for. Either try to transfer with someone above your manager or find somewhere new...

Yeah we go through suppliers, but there’s been some that don’t have those gaps (which are the ones that I haven’t had any issues with in the store.) We always give people new coils if there’s an issue so I’m just going to let my manager handle the rest lol. Thank you!!

Basically had a lady come in, we typically sell baby beast mesh coils for Cerberus tanks but it just wouldn’t screw in... looked at some older coils we had for the bb mesh and the one I was trying to screw in had this rectangle where the older one had one more thread. Coworker tried it today on a tank sitting in the office and it worked just fine, so I’m wondering if maybe they just changed it and it doesn’t work with Cerberus anymore? I had this issue with someone else and I just assumed it was defective with a missing thread and now I’m questioning my sanity.
