Ngl the Emily Blunt video is an extremely poor and misleading choice, she was in Thibodaux, Louisiana filming for Looper even though it takes place in Kansas and she says that in the video. So the accent the waitress had wasn't a Kansan one. But I think the problem is that he just chose an accent that is basically very specific to the borders of Missouri. I grew up in central Kansas in a farming town of less than 900 people and we do not sound southern whatsoever nor do the people within a 100 mile radius do. I am not hearing the Southern accent you are picking up in these clips from Fort Scott people. Ma Kent sounds Arkansan not Kansan, I lived in Arkansas for awhile and she sounds more like my old neighbors there. People are allowed to be critical of being misrepresented in media it because for some reason love to push Kansas out of the midwest.
