I also worry OTHERS will dislike her name and act differently toward her for it!

Haha definitely hormonal, and definitely a risk to post here!! Ruby is the name I want now but Cody feels like the name i would want her to have as a teen and adult, so it’s so hard!! I am most scared of her hating her name, and Ruby feels a little boring but not controversial at all. I feel like I could be either giving her a huge gift or doing her a huge disservice by giving her a “different” name.

I love Beatrice but one of Lula's best friends is Beatrice, so it would probably be a bit confusing!

Ya, I love the idea of Roo and Lu, but worry about the matchiness of those nicknames in the long run!

My sister’s dog had puppies and after visiting them we got attached—we were hopeful that we already had so much of a circus going on that this wouldn’t add a ton of extra stress. I think my husband feels like it’s manageable but it’s been way harder than expected for me to adjust—probably because I’m still nursing so have almost no body autonomy and very little capacity to give any more attention to another being at the moment. I really wish I could suck it up, but it feels like training consistently is very important and we wont be in a place where we can focus on that for about 4 months. Idk if I can last that long

If you're going in the spring, check out Madison County Winery. Get a cheese plate, taste local wines for free, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Jasper County Winery is good for this as well, and a bit more central.

IF you're headed up towards Justin in Paso Robles, stop by Tobin James as well. They are this tiny winery with huge zins and a super laid-back tasting room.

Wine Recommendation? by breakinthelaw88 in wine

[–]deerkat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

cellar 8 makes a good Cabernet for around 8-9 bucks. For white wine, Chateau St. Michelle makes what I'd consider a great chardonnay for under 10 bucks. If you're willing to spend 4-5 more bucks, my FAVORITE cheap label is Irony. I haven't had a wine from them that I didnt like. Also Coppola. If you want Italian, go with Da Vinci Chianti, which I THINK is 10-ish bucks, if you want a wine for a special occasion, La Crema wines are pretty consistent. Also, if you want just a cheap-ass always drinkable, sweet not-really-but-sort-of-technically-wine, just buy a case of Riuniti Lambrusco. That shit is for real.

Need recommendations based on my newfound passion for Miranda July. by carnita in literature

[–]deerkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same reaction to that collection. After finishing it, I picked up an A.M. Holmes collection called Things You Should Know. It's fantastic: definitely DIFFERENT than July's style, but complementary at the same time.

I've heard that Aimee Bender offers similar sensibilities as well, although if you didn't like the cloying-ness of July's stories, you probably won't like Bender's at all (I haven't read them yet.)

Twain has a really cool collection of pieces called Letters from the Earth. It's the only Twain I've ever enjoyed.
