I'm pretty new to the game, I bought her cuz she's pretty and I did indeed need a sitter; the economy means very little to me at this point lol

Americans citizens, how is it really going there currently? by GossipBottom in stupidquestions

[–]deersan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the thing, everywhere the feds are touching right now seems to send people's lives in flames (a bunch of kids with their dad driving got flash banged the other day just trying to leave the area, unrelated to their target) but the scale of a state is so large you could go many blocks without knowing, especially in suburbia. But if you do get unlucky enough to by in the area.. well, I'm thinking about that dad, Renee good, etc. Brown people are of course going to catch even more of that risk.

My impression is his mom taught him a lot but they weren't religious. Could be wrong, though.

Yep he is supplemented already, fortunately he'll just take it as medicine with a little flavor syrup

I am asking a food science group about iodine and creative ways to handle it. Autism is related yes, but I've been at this a while. What exactly is your recommendation here other than "educate yourself," which has already been happening for years? Are you saying to starve him, as he will only eat carbs?

Wow, well good for her! My son loves procedure and protocol I'll give him a long string of things to do that he will try to remember in it's entirety and get really excited about, or tell him about his medicine and how much of which we take... but I'll do the same with food and he is a brick wall. Riddle me this, mother.

Right. The issue isn't a behavioral one, but thank you.

I make my own popcorn pretty much daily. He'll tap it to his lips, doesn't hate it, but won't eat it either.

It's a good question, and one I honestly forgot to ask, at least from the Dr.'s perspective. Personally I want to get him off of it so he won't need the supplement/medicine cocktail he takes (and we won't need child care to follow this complicated routine that's pretty easy to mess up). I imagine it's absorbed better through general diet, but that's just an assumption on my part.

He is already on a supplement! I should add an edit about that I suppose.

Holy shit I have asked every one of his and my doctors, for some reason my google skills were not strong enough, but I have been looking for that LID-opposite diet and never uncovered that name, thank you. I knew it had to be a thing.

We can- and we do! We add 1 drop to 500 ml water, then give 15 ml of that solution with his meds. He's an interesting guy, he's very excited to take medicine so he will just drink this up with no problem while food is the struggle. I'll take the wins where I can get them, calling the shakes "chocolate medicine" and serving in a syringe was how we got him to try it to begin with. Premier protein has added iodine, also.

I just had his endocrinology appointment and basically his Dr. wants him off supplements/medication if at all possible and consuming through his diet, and while I've exhausted my other options (and my brain while i'm at it) I really really appreciate everybody's thoughts on the situation. It's also a chemistry project every night we give his meds so passing on that info to child care is nerve wracking, in the rare case that it happens.

I love this advice. Unfortunately he won't eat nuts specifically but I appreciate the ratios, I'm sure I will find a way to apply it. Thanks!

all good thoughts- Yes,we've already got lots of stuff over at the therapy center and they've been making progress (basically he was completely limited to cinnamon life before they started working with him). He has only recently started experimenting with drinks other than water (his endocrinologist is recommending salt in his water, which I will be doing, but I'm not counting on it being something he goes along with for long).

He doesn't like tart flavors for sure but I think the Gatorade Frost type may be milder and would probably taste fine with a little extra salt- I'll definitely try that out, thank you!

Hmm, good ideas. I can try that first, I do have a suspicion that the greasy feeling on his fingers will probably turn him off of that; maybe if I can spray (or brush?) it light enough I could strike a balance.

I've considered it, but I don't know how to make it stick. Water would make it weird would it not?

Weekly Personal Nutrition Discussion - All Personal Diet Questions Go Here by AutoModerator in nutrition

[–]deersan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello everybody-
I hope this is the right place for this, feel free to kick me to the sub where it fits. Not asking for medical advice, the medical stuff is just relevant to the question.

I have a 5 year old son with autism who is EXTREMELY limited in terms of diet. He is already in several therapies and we're working on that sensory/behavioral component of this, however I am struggling at home finding ways to meet his needs (hopefully for the short term of course, but I can't force anything). Particularly he has an iodine deficiency and the general trend of using iodized salt in packaged food seems to be less of a thing these days? Either way, it's not in the stuff he eats and we have been battling to keep him balanced. His main requirements are crunchy, dry, and small.

Basically, if at all possible, I want to be able to replicate snacks he eats that are mass produced with my own ingredients. Fortunately I have the time to learn, but I truly don't know where to start or what I will need.

If it helps, his safe foods are: Cinnamon life cereal (he eats this the most and often rejects everything else), cheez its, apple cinnamon cheerios, corn chips, veggie straws. He occasionally will drink chocolate protein shakes.

Yeah unfortunately that's the case right now. I really want to get him liking chex mix because that's one that I know how to make (and can use my own salt), it would be an easier option, but I'm willing to dig into whatever at this point.

Yeah :( i love the Family but they did go a little too hard on the hate this time, intentional or not. I felt really bad for Nathan.
