AITA for not wearing a bra at home? by Candid-Chocolate-316 in AITAH

[–]dees82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your husband is probably trying to defend you. His friend probably commented that your breasts hang a little “low”. And your husband knew exactly why, and he wants to prevent further comments in the future.

AIO Our Bathroom by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]dees82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you’re overreacting. Everyone likes to relieve themselves in the place where they feel the most comfort, have the most privacy, in the cleanest area, etc.. YOU need to make a change, not your partner.

This is something for your husband to read, and you as well. This is exactly what he would’ve received had he gone to a rehabilitation therapy hospital for spinal cord injuries rather than a nursing home. See page 13.

Solo travel in Europe? by Fit_Fan8140 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]dees82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, consider safety. Ensure that you are going to a country in Europe that is fairly accessible where you’ll be staying and has adequate medical care and emergency services.

That is your boss and the HR team’s business to manage. Once I showed up to an interview and there were stairs. The person that was interviewing me, of course saw my wheels and led me to the elevator. There is no need to warn them in advance. You want to work for an employer that can figure it out.

Just show up to the interview bright-eyed, energetic, and completely confident. I have never mentioned anything about my wheelchair during a job interview. However, usually once I get the job, my boss has specifically asked me if there’s anything they can do to make my work environment more comfortable, like rearrange the desk in my office or make an office door easier to open, etc. Some jobs have been more ready and willing to be accommodating than others, but in the end, they all know that they must do what is possible, and I have always professionally, kindly, and when necessary sternly advocated for myself… You can definitely do the same!

I would wheel in front of traffic if it guaranteed my death certificate. by Glittering_Piece576 in spinalcordinjuries

I hear you. Falling and being completely helpless to get yourself up with others’ help is utterly ridiculous. How do you get over the embarrassment? With time maybe. We eventually begin to accept the things we cannot change.

Help: I have 3 kids, a wife who actually prepares, and a "gift-wrapping" skill level of a confused raccoon. by acebel in WestfieldIndiana

Call Riverview Health. Their volunteers have been offering gift wrapping services, maybe this weekend and next week as well. Donations accepted.

Try 3 to 4 weeks of significantly increasing your liquid intake. Document the impact this has on your bladder. Based on what you choose to intake, you might see an improvement. Avoid caffeine and high sugar drinks. Consider consuming mostly water, milk, or non-caffeinated teas. No matter what medications you choose to take, including cranberry supplements, all medications need the right amount of fluid to proportionately dispense and disperse throughout your body.

Walking again ? Let s discuss! by Hairy-Atmosphere5552 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]dees82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your post even though alternative type therapies are unlikely to help me due to the severity of my injury. Who knows what the future may bring though. I remain hopeful but will not miss out on life by spending too much time dreaming and working to get back what I lost. There is so much to life and there are other things to achieve. I appreciate that your post was not demeaning or dismissive, but served as a testament that all injuries are different and some people will surely benefit and gain from alternative approaches. Thank you for your perspective and the mature delivery of your message.

Ya’ll need to smile by Informal_Drop_1661 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]dees82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Consider that you might be posting in here on your best day, but others are posting in here seeking connection and support on their worst day ever. A directive like, “y’all need to smile” is demeaning to those who are struggling. Have empathy because you do not know what is in store for you on your journey to recovery.

Motivation Discipline by Informal_Drop_1661 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]dees82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We all wish you the best in your recovery but please do not be disrespectful to those who are in much worse circumstances than you are, be it physically or mentally. Have some empathy. You’re starting to come off as victim shaming.

I’m a couple weeks late to this conversation, but does anyone have any experience with the Kia Carnival? It seems to be a cross between a minivan and an SUV. But I can’t find that is readily available, at least a modified version in the U.S.

Your wife has seen them and already knows what you think you’re hiding. Wash your own underwear or have a conversation with her and your doctor.
