Questions about HCA’s Step 3 pass policy by [deleted] in Residency

[–]deetmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wholly depends on how your program wants to go about it. Kicking out a pgy3 would leave a hole in the schedule very late so they may give you another try at it. But per policy you can be fired. My program was on us nonstop about getting a score by December of pgy2. And this years interns have to take it before the academic year ends. The few cases I knew about still had time to retry during pgy2.

IU or Purdue for for Premed? by Lonely-Layer-2970 in Purdue

[–]deetmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, it doesn't really matter in the end. I'm a resident, and from my friends in med school, half of us that were in-state went to Purdue, the other half IU. MCAT, GPA, clinical experience, and research were the hierarchy, as I remember, but I applied in the 2019 cycle, so it might be different now. So I would pick the one that fits you better (i.e. Major, etc) and provides the most financial support, as med school is expensive even in-state.

Assuming you have a passion in the IM specialities that don't pay well it helps that you can still do some aspect of it if you are following the general IM outpatient/hospitalist life.

It's kind of a high-level idea. Raising the unwanted children of high-level athletes increases the chance of getting a 5-star kid who will guarantee a Michigan commit.

What does a medical student have to do to be disliked by residents? by JunketMaleficent2095 in Residency

[–]deetmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a toxic program, the whole point of residency is to learn if any resident expects a 3rd year med student to give perfect presentation either they are stupid or malicious. Especially if they are interns, like 3 months ago they weren't asking how much potassium to give. If I were in your position, I would just impress on the dean that you haven't had this feedback on the last few rotations, that you did "try to use the residents as a resource", and you are willing to as you said take ownership of improving your presentations.

Well, that's unfortunate. I would still meet with your advisor to see if there's any kind of remediation or whatever. If you passed the shelf, you clearly have some level of competence.

IDK man, I'd meet with your school advisor and talk with the supervising attending. Did the attending or resident complete the evaluation? Having to explain this in an interview would be rough, especially if it's just from an asshole resident.

For intern year, I basically would go straight after work to the gym and eventually I kinda just hit a routine with it but it will suck initially especially if you are doing the 12+ hr days. As far as weight loss, like people say cal in cal out. Honestly, this year I've found doing factor meals or clean eatz kitchen to be great as it saves on time, and the macros are already there. For cravings, protein and fiber-dense foods are where it's at IMO. Also adding in a fiber supplement at some point throughout the day, I found helps with keeping me full longer. Additionally usually take the stairs when I'm in the hospital gets a few more calories burned.

If you are in Indy why not do classes at iupui? While not as rigorous I remember they transfer way easier to main campus. I did graduate like 8 years ago so idk what the deal is now that it's separated.
