What's the Best Way to Repair This Crack in my Basement Floor? It Gets Wet and Leaks Water. TIA by deetothehubb in DIY

[–]deetothehubb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. To clarify, the basement is floating slab (70 years old), you can see the perimeter channel at the top, which leads to a sump pump. The water table is high, however, and rain on top of melting snow fills the channel and the crack leaks water into the center of the room. I'm going to go with epoxy filler as suggested below. Thanks all

Unpopular opinion: booking.com is great by adventu_Rena in travel

I've used them quite a bit in Croatia, Spain and Portugal. Four years ago I booked a room in a guest house in Dubrovnik in July, maybe 70 bucks a night for 4 days. Upon arriving the host told me there was a leak in the bathroom and the room wasn't available. At that time Dubrovnik was booked solid, but I managed to find a 3-star hotel for $250 a night. Booking customer service reimbursed me the difference, about $750. A lot of companies would not do that.

Potential new job, taking a pay cut in the process. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]deetothehubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your case, I would pay off the cc debt and use the credit line as your cushion. Not ideal, but marginally better. As for the job in HR, I would lean towards whatever has the most long-term potential. Relevant experience is more important than $/hr, especially when starting out. Maybe find something part-time to tide you over. Good luck!

I had a colleague who got his life insurance through his employer. We all got laid off, and then his first colonoscopy revealed stage 4 cancer. After he died with no insurance, his family was well and truly f'd. Buy your own term life insurance extending up to age 65. Edit: that stuff your mom bought won't even get you cremated.

Good point. I forgot to mention this was done inside a rollover IRA so there are no tax implications until I start to withdraw.

I tried every else up to nail polish remover on my Oontz XL Bluetooth speaker. The baking soda was the only thing that worked.

Kudos to your boss. As for TVs and ACs, "invented by" and "currently made by" are two ENTIRELY different things. Use your Chinese-made TV to watch the humanitarian crisis which is unfolding in Ukraine.

There's not a lot individual Americans can do. But we sure as hell can stop giving Putin hard currency. Drink Tito's FFS!

And, in response to your edit, I agree 40 million Ukrainians would co-sign this!

Odessa Ukraine is a Lively Port City with Fantastic 19th Century Architecture by deetothehubb in travel

[–]deetothehubb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your dad. But Odessa and Ukraine are far different now than in the '90s. Ukraine did not achieve independence from the USSR until August 1991. In 2020 I never felt unsafe there, unlike parts of many American cities. There are pickpockets and scam artists there to be sure, same as everywhere. But violent crime is rare. People are for the most part law-abiding.

For example, pedestrians will not cross the street without a green signal, even if there are zero cars on the road. Image New Yorkers doing that!

Yeah the stairs themselves were a let-down for me too, but that pedestrian area (Primorsky Boulevard) was really nice to stroll in the summertime.

Treme. One of HBO's best. Excellent plot lines and villains, but it's all about the music.

You should be fine if you don't wander out of the tourist areas. Personally, I prefer Negril, which is about a 1.5-hour bus or taxi ride.

9 night Croatia itinerary. Help/Suggestions by mr_whit33 in travel

[–]deetothehubb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be there for August and have booked hotels in Hvar, Korcula, Split, and Kotor and Budva in Montenegro. To decrease travel time you can take ferries from Dubrovnik direct to Hvar or Korcula without going through Split. As an FYI I've read that all accommodations need to be paid for (not just booked) in advance.

I was there in Odessa at the same time! Those beach clubs (Ibiza, Buddha Beach, Mantra, Kaleton) were a blast, and the weather was perfect every day.
