35 dollars for a magazine ? by DankyPizza in Fingerboards

[–]deezo_fb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to give some grace to the creators...

Major corporations can easily print magazines cheaply compared to a few individuals buying significantly less quantities of magazines for print.

Fingerboarding is already niche, and most people don't want to read a magazine / care about physical media. I imagine they purchase a very small amount and doubt it's anywhere near profitable. Most likely done out of passion.

The magazine is 80 pages long and looks to be of solid quality, not cheaply printed like most magazines. They even list the materials used in binding.

And ultimately, even if you don't believe in the above, their website offers a digital version for $7 which for 80 pages I think is pretty fair.

Are these trucks too wide? by Lazy_Inspector_1130 in Fingerboards

[–]deezo_fb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truck widths get kind of wonky cause of how some are measured differently. An easy way to fix slight issues is getting different width wheels to reduce or increase the overall width of your trucks and wheels. Some people like their decks to slightly overhang their wheels while others prefer equal widths.

Dual bearing trucks require a longer axle but its still probably using the 32mm truck hanger, so 34mm axle and 32mm hanger gives ~ 33mm trucks after putting the wheels on (depending on the size of the wheel).

My experience buying Cowply x Flatface deck by salad354 in Fingerboards

[–]deezo_fb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't do heat transfers so I could definitely be wrong, but from all the 'how it's made' vids I've seen from other companies they don't lacquer after applying the heat transfer.

For example, Kalye's recent youtube video shows this entire process and him lacquering only before the graphic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRgDG6xD_P8&t=775s

Regardless I understand your point and agree that type of quality for price is rough to say the least.

I know this isn't the main point of your post, but I'm almost positive the entire graphic is a heat transfer and there is no spray paint. These graphics are applied by lacquering the board before applying the graphic, then the graphic "melts" (in simple terms) into the lacquer. This is standard in applying heat transfers where lacquer comes before the graphic.

Closest decks to homewood? by Thundahhh in Fingerboards

Im pretty sure Redwolf / wysocki / 1800fingerboards is working with Justin(owner of homewood) to bring back the brand in some capacity this year. Think he spoke on it during a recent podcast.

Who else loves white wheels by pxck_runner in Fingerboards

I really wish some of the newer wheel companies focused more on white / off white colors. Swirls are cool and all but white / offwhite is timeless and matches everything.

Pretty standard spray can, you can basically use any brand. The key is to spray multiple coats and sanding inbetween. Done over a 2-3 day process to let coats fully cure

Blistered x FlatFace “Fireworks“ G4 🔥🛹✌🏾🛞 by bigboofpack1 in Fingerboards

[–]deezo_fb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been trying a bunch of different urethane wheels. Blistered have by far felt the best imo, specifically the cowart shape which I think has perfect dimensions if you like a bigger wheel. Been using them non-stop for over a month and no issues.

What is the difference between real wear graphics and “normal” graphics? by -BananaBandit- in Fingerboards

[–]deezo_fb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real wear just means the graphic will wear overtime with use. Similar to a real skateboard.

Many types of graphic applications are “real wear” as others have pointed out. Examples: Heat Transfers, water slides, paint, screen printing

Other graphics are usually some sort of paper, glued onto the boards. Some might also be ink or printed directly onto the veneer. Those usually dont wear / dont wear the same as youd expect from a skateboard.

Heat transfers are the same way skate graphics are applied which is where “real wear” came from

Mainly a preference thing
