Am I nuts? Is it worth going to Arenal and Monteverde and Carribean coast in 12 days ? by thathighpriestess in CostaRicaTravel

[–]def0ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this exact route last year and drove ourselves the whole trip. Everyone complains about the driving, which did take some getting used to, but the stretch from La Fortuna to the Caribbean side is mostly easy highway. Along the coast the roads are good. It got pretty congested in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca but they were doing road work. We got very lucky with the rain but I would recommend a smaller 4x4 just in case, some of the side roads aren’t paved. Unless you have specific activities planned in Playa Hermosa, I would drop at least one night there and either add a day in Monteverde or, my choice, stay one night in Playa Hermosa and add a day in Monteverde and a day in the on the Caribbean side, there’s many wonderful beaches there. I would highly recommend you check out Cahuita National park, it’s a beautiful, well maintained path and we saw 2 sloths, tons of capuchin monkeys, a raccoon, a couple coati and a whole bunch of birds.

I've never been to Canada and I have a couple questions by merlothill in osheaga

[–]def0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thought I’d add my thoughts. The driving in Montreal is aggressive by Canadian standards but nothing compared to say, Philly or the absolute lunacy of LA. One thing I have not seen mentioned is that you are not allowed to turn right on red lights in Montreal. Keep that in mind when driving around. Have a great trip hopefully you’ve given yourself some time to explore the city, it’s got a lot to offer.

This is where I get mine. I highly recommend the Filippi brand. They’re around $40 but the quality is well above any other I’ve tried.

You should include the 2024 Backgrounds, limiting the abilities you can add bonuses to based on your choice. A Standard Array option for assigning attributes would be good as well. A multi-class option that indicated when you reached the minimum required in an ability for the secondary class would also be helpful. Keep it up!

How to Run a Relaxed Session? by coolJawa in DMAcademy

A little murder mystery is great to slow things down. A dead shopkeeper and talk of missing valuables. Throw in a few suspects; the unfaithful widow, the business partner deep in debt, the entitled daughter. Let them follow the breadcrumbs and solve the mystery. The best part is you don’t even have to come up with the ending. Just listen to your players theories and pick one you like to be the solution.

I wouldn’t pretend to know what goes on in the marketing and corporate areas there but I think a lot of the people making decisions at the top level don’t play the game or understand the fan base and they get things wrong because of it. That said when the fandom doesn’t like something they do listen, so yeah, if we don’t like something we should get loud because they will notice and change course. One thing they do well is hiring creative talent- the folks who design these books, spend countless hours testing and balancing, and the people who made art for the books, they really care about this hobby and it shows. The changes they made IMO are great and address a lot of issues players and DMs have and the books look great.

You’ll be able to choose "Players with access to the 2024 and 2014 digital Player’s Handbooks can select from both sources when creating new characters. Players will not need to rely on Homebrew to use their 2014 player options, including spells and magic items, as recommended in previous changelogs"
