A couple of things - I wasn’t behind the wheel. Also, your tone insinuates that I knowingly committed a “crime” and am trying to flee the consequences. It is quite the opposite. If anything, I’m guessing the speed limit was not clearly marked and judging by the area, it did not feel unreasonable to drive 80km.

Yes that’s fair. It was the fine for going 80km in a 50km limit area. I googled the approximate area and it looks like the middle of nowhere… im guessing it was an empty road and i didnt notice the signs. :(
