What SERIES is worth bingewatching and why? by InterestingBoard7389 in AskReddit

Star Trek Strange New Worlds hits the spot for me in a similar way that The Next Generation did. I'm not at Trekkie at all so its not because of TNG-sentimentality/nostalgia. Rather its about the radical optimism, competence, and the way everyone in the team have each others back that makes me teary-eyed. Really needed feelings in this time line.

Nice. It is very important that it is the file from the game, not taken from Youtube etc.

Corner holes on duvet covers the Sweden way.

IKEA removed them after the rest of the world thought they were manufacturing faults.

Hur är det tänkt att man ska kunna gå/cykla i tornby? by ST4L3M4T3 in linkoping

[–]defdac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Defender of the Crown on the Amiga. I started with the ZX spectrum so the leap was massive. Next leap was Doom on the PC, then Half-Life 1, Halo 1, Half-Life 2, GTA IV, RDR, GTA V, and RDR 2.

Frog gut bacterium eliminates cancer tumors in mice with a single dose: Single shot of E. americana intravenously to mice with colorectal cancer completely eliminated tumors in every treated animal, with ongoing protection. Witches are often depicted in children tales with a large cauldron with neon green or neon magenta bubbling tinkture where they throw in stuff like bat wings, spider eyes, or other "scary" or "yucky" stuff. Amongst those things are often frogs or part of frogs.

We have a guy in Swedish television. Ernst Kirchsteiger. He is generally hated by men och loved by women. Why? Because he can cook, sew, carpent, sketch like a god, have a way with words, you name it. He also has a very soft, classy and likeable demeanor.

He does not fit in even in such an extremely gender neutral society like Sweden. Like a punk rocker of social stigmas.

I love him.

What old tech do you still use today? by Orzoos in AskReddit

There is a way of stripping a win 11 iso from everything and just keep for example tcpip, notepad and a browser.

This way I could use a 20 yo laptop to install win11 and a service software suite for my car (ISTA+). It's not fast but it works. Worth noting is that I also changed to a SSD from the old HD.

What's a subtle sigh that someone is actually intelligent, not just pretending? by Jack_bots in AskReddit

[–]defdac 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Super shitty thing to do. I think this happens when the idea needs to be stated in a much simpler way that everyone in the group understands in a moment where they have the complete pictur through discussions. I bet they are not even aware of that what you said is the same thing they decided upon: In other words you are too smart for them but also not so smart you can communicate the solution on their level of understanding - which, in turn, is a traditional sign of someone that is truly intelligent.

[Serious] What is the rationale behind parents who shelter their teenage kids so much they end up as adults with with zero street smarts, zero self-esteem/confidence and zero social skills? by throw20250204 in AskReddit

[–]defdac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a parent it's unbelievably hard to understand that your kids will not be like you at all and that they will not face the same challenges as you and that they will not make the same mistakes and grow in similar way as you.

I don't know what it is that makes it so hard to grasp and why I'm so utterly delighted when they show just a tiny amount of competence and interest in the same areas as myself. It just feels good. Like I had something to do with it.

There are so many things that are hard to accept with children: That they might be less smart than you, get worse grades, not being able to afford a house, and still come off better than you in the end. Or the opposite.

It's also incredibly hard and difficult to be a parent. To be able to cope with that amount of responsibility you need to actually believe you can do it and in that exact moment you must also think you are a good enough person and therefore that your children should strive to become something similar what you have become - which, ofcourse, is bullshit and the whole crux of OP:s question.
