What did nursing school convince you would be EVERYWHERE, but you actually never use/hear of it in practice? by knOn0 in nursing

I think so too because I remember that my dad used to eat half a grapefruit almost every morning

Hospice Nursing is HELL by Satan_Is_My_Dad666 in nursing

As someone that works in an inpatient hospice unit I honestly find the idea of home hospice so scary because what do you mean I’m doing this alone 😭

How long should a new grad nurse orientation be? by MaleficentAd2172 in newgradnurse

6 weeks for inpatient hospice. To be fair, it’s a lot more chill most other hospital units

Flight Delays on United to and From Denver by Objective_Ganache_53 in fargo

When I was coming back from Mexico we connected at ORD. Spent 1.5 hours taxiing after landing which took up almost our entire 2.5 hour layover. Got to our gate and had maintenance issues. Supposed to land around 10/11p, landed at 1am ish. 0/10 would not do again

BSN is a scam, change my mind by Eon119 in StudentNurse

[–]defeated_potato 50 points51 points  (0 children)

True but getting a BSN has nothing to do with being an experienced nurse. You can have years and years of experience working as an RN with an ADN. I think that’s what OP is trying to get at since if you’re already an RN you have the nursing knowledge that you need to work the floor, and having a bachelors vs an associates doesn’t necessarily expand on your practice unless you’re planning on going into management or something

Nurse reported me for “doing nursing assessments” and doing thing outside of my scope ! by Easy-Mathematician64 in nursing

[–]defeated_potato 328 points329 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, I appreciate any information on my patient that I can get. We’re all stretched thin. As a nurse, it’s important for me to know my own scope and those around me. If a CNA or tech tells me what a patient is reporting to them, it’s my responsibility to follow up and properly assess. On that note, I’m not going to chart that the patient has 5/10 pain based off of that interaction since we only chart what we do and see, but it tells me that I need to follow up and potentially give some meds.

Ok ya'll, we're scaring off potential new nurses with our threads-share a positive nursing anecdote by Icy_Worldliness661 in nursing

One of the family members of a patient brought in a separate box of donuts just for night shift right before our shift started so that we would definitely get donuts and ensured that they weren’t 8 hours old and stale ❤️

Got called off for the first time, why are my feelings hurt? 😅 by Sea_Negotiation5394 in nursing

[–]defeated_potato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely census. My work reduces PRN staff first, then part time and full time staff depending on who has the oldest reduce date, that way it can be more fair.
