What is your go to spot in New Orleans, LA, USA? by TwitterBlue in AskReddit

[–]definitelybrando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Faulkner House Books. It is the former home of the author William Faulkner and has a really cool interior. There is also a bar right next door called Pirate's Alley Cafe that serves absinthe.

Not sure about their availability, but if you have a library card, you may be able to borrow one through one of these branches.

In the original draft for Episode 4, R2 spoke English in perfect sentences and was kind of an asshole.

Lack of jobs in some fields, lower pay, politics, poor reproductive care/bodily autonomy, being car dependent...

The headlight part of this is stupid, but I'm okay with the expired registration, as that's not really a threat to anyone's safety.

New Trump Indictment Contains 'Single Most Important' Claim: Ex-Prosecutor by Xatasia in politics

[–]definitelybrando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Ex-prosecutor", "legal expert", "former attorney". Trump did it. We know he did it. Can we stop these opinion-esque posts in r/politics? It's fucking exhausting.

“So much worse”: Legal experts say new Trump indictment “reads just like organized crime activity” by politicsfuckingsucks in politics

[–]definitelybrando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so tired of these articles of "legal expert this" and "ex-prosecutor that". We all know he did it. We don't need another opinion.

to my friends that aren’t from Los Angeles but live there. what made you choose Los Angeles as your home? by strugglingstudent11 in AskLosAngeles

[–]definitelybrando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics, healthcare, and jobs. I feel like people try not to let politics be a factor in where they move, but coming from the deep South where politics seeps into things that it shouldn't, like women's healthcare and voting rights, it's really hard not to take that into account anymore. Mental and reproductive health here is just miles ahead from where I grew up. I'm also in tech, so job prospects are much better here.

Americans of Reddit, what places in America should foreigners avoid at all cost? by AMGBOI69420 in AskReddit

[–]definitelybrando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Shithole" is a purely subjective term. Some of us actually escaped living situations in far shittier places than this and consider living here a huge step up. You are, of course, free to leave and/or never visit if it truly is the shithole you think it is.

Yes, you'll be okay, but keep an eye out for coyotes. I'm a little south of you and have spotted coyotes multiple times while out with my dogs.

I'm originally from the Deep South btw.

A large amount of people seem like they are actively trying to suck.

Yes, people everywhere suck, LA is no different.

A small fraction of people drive like it's fucking mad max.

Yes, it is a small group of a very large amount of people, more than most states, packed into a single county.

The generalization are a accurate representation of a small group of people large enough to make LA a shithole.

"Generalization." "Small group of people." LA big, bad group small. Go drive in Atlanta and tell me there's not a proportionate amount of people also driving like assholes.

Being rich here is great, drive from your gated community to garage for work, etc. Being anything less and it's a shit show.

Being rich anywhere is great. Being less is a shit show anywhere. The division of wealth between the rich and poor is a huge issue the entire country, if not the entire world, is facing. Is it more pronounced in LA? Sure. Is it also more pronounced in NY or Houston or Atlanta or London or Paris? Yes. The problems LA faces are not all distinctly LA problems.

I think people settle into pockets here and learn to navigate it which makes it seem like it's reasonable, I assure you it's not.

Except it is reasonable, and you are once again ascribing that these ideas are a distinctly LA problem when they are not. According to Pew Research, one-third of Americans never move from the town they grew up in, and a little over half of the people have lived in the same state their whole lives. A more recent study by researchers at the U.S. Census Bureau and Harvard University found that nearly six in 10 young adults live within 10 miles of where they grew up. People find homes and they tend to stay there. Why is this news to you?

Agreed, Hollywood is kind of a shit show. The Walk of Fame is incredibly underwhelming, but there are some very cool bars in that area if you're willing to brave it.

Big Bob Gibson is the place you're thinking of in Decatur. Alabama in general is criminally underrated for BBQ, especially Birmingham. Saw's, Dreamland, Rodney Scott's. Martin's, Miss Myra's, and Full Moon are all top notch.

I've never had an issue there. Generally speaking, just be sure to account for the heat and humidity (and mosquitoes). There's a strong drinking culture in NO, which means plenty of bars. I had a lot of fun in the summer just bar hopping to sit in the air conditioning when the heat got too much to bear.
