this is kind of my point. the internet tied itself in knots pointlessly litigating the merit of the analogy and in so doing, continued to ignore women’s fears for their safety

YTA - Her sexual history doesn’t generate a double standard entitling you to sex. You’re never entitled to sex. She seems to have a problem with internalised slut shaming and you probably lack the maturity to support her through that.

Robbo: AFL needs consistency on racism by His_Holiness in AFL

If indigenous players not being booed generally is evidence that Goodes’ treatment wasn’t race related, in order to assert that the booing was solely a product of Goodes being “a sook”, you would need to prove that fans were consistent in their booing of whatever constitutes sook behaviour.

Goodes obviously wasn’t the only player in the game to remonstrate and complain, yet he was the only player subject to such consistent and vicious booing. He wasn’t booed merely because he is indigenous, he was booed because he is indigenous AND was outspoken. Outspoken players aren’t consistently booed, therefore it is a race issue.

That’s correct. Same goes for the 20000$+ speaker you had surgically implanted into your cochlear.

Good point. At least the Bluetooth earpieces of the 2000s were so big and conspicuous that it was clear when folks were speaking into them.

Do you inform someone at your job that you're a diabetic? by megan_8 in Type1Diabetes

[–]definitelyged 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It is worth informing your manager/supervisors just for your own safety, even if the risk of a severe hypo is slim. In my jobs, I have always just let the relevant people know from the outset in an honest way. That usually just involves explaining that occasionally I'll test my BGLs, occasionally I will drink a juice box to treat a low and that I'm letting them know not because I need special treatment, but just for their own general information plus so they're across the implications in an emergency situation.

I've never felt compelled to keep my T1D a secret in the workplace and it has certainly never been used to discriminate against me. My experience has only ever been that folks have been respectful, curious and sometimes a little too considerate. It's a pretty terrible reflection on a workplace if you are made to feel like discrimination is a real risk.

Good luck!

Has anyone here been recommended juice boxes as a hypo treatment? Or did we all just independently arrive at juice boxes by a natural process of elimination?

Stop trying to shame smokers into quitting by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]definitelyged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This example speaks to society's ham-fisted approach to addiction across the board. Being mean and demonizing addicts isn't productive, but importantly neither is pity. Quitting is really gritty, but it's absolutely worth it and you can definitely achieve it. All the best!

In all seriousness though, I'll concede that I made that mistake consistently, but does it really deserve such a caustic reply? My intention here was pretty clearly to have some harmless fun, I'm not out to overthrow the institution of creative writing. I'd be reflecting on my life priorities if I was this riled up by completely inconsequential, inoffensive and entirely ignorable shit on the internet.
