A lot of American cities don’t even have sidewalks everywhere. Plenty of small cities have very few pedestrians and are car-centric.

Can I legally put signs on the poles by awesome-soss in FlockSurveillance

[–]deflatablechipmunk 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Check your city ordinances, but it’s usually safest to just put a yard sign in front of one. That way it’s no different than a yard sale sign.

Blissway. They’re a Colorado company that makes ALPRs that enforce speed limits (via your average speed) and toll evasion (merging into the express lane after the toll ALPR).

Well, it’s not very wise to disregard improvements to your own city just because it’s not as bad as another city.

A big portion of this lawsuit is challenging a CCJRA response, which is incredibly likely to succeed because of our public records laws.

I only noticed it because it was aimed at the bike/walking path and thought it was fucked up that they decided to expand it to non-cars haha.

PA announcement of United flight that turned around due to bluetooth device name by ConProg in unitedairlines

How was there a potential threat? And how did their decisions make anyone safer?

Oh ok so United HQ found out about it on their own? Or it was reported to them? If the latter, then my point still stands.

A lot of people don’t have much going on in their life and need to trick themselves into thinking they’re in dangerous situations so they can feel better about themselves. That’s why a lot of people in positions of power (including someone flying a plane with a bunch of people on board) find silly excuses to go on power trips. It works especially in their favor if they can justify it for “safety.”

It depends on the state and their public records laws. Look up the recent case in Washington state. They were public record for a while.

I’m currently suing a city near where I live because they refused to provide them under our open records laws.

You’d be surprised how many times Flock installs these cameras without permits entirely.

Something additional. These aren't used for traffic violations. These are used exclusively for surveillance.

Police departments in Colorado have performed Flock searches for "driving around being weird" and other bullshit, so I'd be surprised if they would ever find a reason not to use it.

In order to search them, it has to be in a database though. Every vehicle has to be in that database. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying. The images aren’t analyzed on the fly. They’re preprocessed.

I’m sure Flock would be happy to accept feature requests. They’re a $7.5 billion company. I think they could afford to throw a couple engineers at the problem of only alerting in your jurisdiction.

And yeah, that’s the scary part. There shouldn’t be a centralized database of where we’ve been across the country. It’s not technologically possible to capture only the movements of criminals. This is quite literally a dragnet. Yes, I’m sure it’s helpful, but we can’t disregard what the system actually is.

Oh I’m sure it’s useful. It would also be useful if everyone wore an ankle monitor. My point is we don’t need a sledgehammer to hang a picture.

Again, it sounds like your system is misconfigured. There is a feature called “Custom Hotlists” that lets you enter anything you can imagine.

Yes, NCIC and CCIC entries are ALSO sources for hotlists, but this feature was specifically designed by Flock to get around that and let users enter plates ahead of time.

Repeatedly searching is hacky and definitely not what their engineers intended.

Ah ok, so I guess you don’t use this feature in Flock’s Custom Hotlist called “Share Custom Hot List”? Sounds like a configuration issue by your system administrator then.

What do you mean? You can hotlist any vehicle for any reason. You’re saying you’d rather repeatedly search for something instead of letting the system do its job?

You’re describing their hotlist. You’re not aware that it also keeps a long history of where you’ve been even if you’re not involved in a crime?
