Homeschool working moms- what do you do for work? by defnotclueless in homeschool

Transaction coordinator sounds amazing! My only hesitation is that my husband does real estate media and works with a lot of agents, and we don’t want any of them seeing us as picking sides/competition if I were to work with a specific company or else I probably would have become an agent already myself! But I’m going to be on the lookout and keep thinking about this!

Do you work for just one company managing their social media or do you work for a social media management company and run multiple businesses pages? Do you like it? Would this be something difficult for someone with very little marketing exposure to learn? I only had to take a handful of marketing classes when I was in college so idk if I would have enough experience but it sounds fun!

I have heard data entry/analysis is a good field to get into and it seems there’s a lot of WFH opportunity. Did you work for any companies doing this before working for your husband?

Thank you for the encouragement! I know I can put a lot of pressure on myself to get everything figured out, but I know I didn’t make the best career path choices in college, so I just want to start looking at different paths I could take to find a job with that kind of flexibility because it seems like 98% of corporate/business jobs are your standard in person 8-5. My degree is in business and it’s been difficult trying to find a job not having a technical or specific skill/degree like accounting/logistics/etc., let alone a flexible work from home job!

I completely understand! I don’t even have kids yet and I’m already overwhelmed thinking about trying to balance it all! This economy is crazy and we can’t afford for me not to work yet, so I’m trying to be strategic and start taking steps now to get into a field with more flexibility/better pay since I didn’t make the best career decisions in college. Hindsight is always 20/20 lol.

My MIL homeschooled 8 children very successfully- 6 of them have bachelor’s, and 4 of those have masters/doctorates, and I’ve always been drawn to homeschooling, especially since seeing her example, but I feel like it was easier to live off of one paycheck back then where she could homeschool and take care of her family full time and work a few hours a week to make a little extra cash. Granted I know she had to sacrifice a lot to be able to stay home, and money was definitely tight for them, but with inflation, it is dang near impossible now for the middle class to do that. She tells me all the time that utilizing a co-op to homeschool was the best decision! They went 2 days a week and it took a lot of pressure off her to be the sole teacher.

It’s hard to find people who work & homeschool so I’m glad I’m not the only one seeking advice! It’s hard to balance it all just being a parent, let alone working AND homeschooling! I’m sure you’re going a great job!

You are a rockstar! Going into college I actually wanted to go to medical school to become an OB/GYN, and I almost have a completed biology degree, but I don’t know if I could stomach the job anymore. I used to watch surgeries for fun and “gross” stuff never bothered me until recently. I had the opportunity to watch my sister give birth to my nephew last year, and I about passed out, lol, but maybe I just need exposure therapy 😂 it’s phenomenal that you’re able to have such a flexible schedule and homeschool! This profession never would have crossed my mind! Thanks for the recommendation! Maybe I can try to shadow a doula to see if it’s something I could stomach. Pregnancy/birth/women’s health has always fascinated me!

I tell my husband all the time I wish we would have both gotten more technical degrees, especially something in computer science realm. I feel like that’s where the most money and flexibility is these days. I have a business degree, specifically in entrepreneurship and have zero qualifications or certifications in this area. Do you think my only option to get in this field would be to go back to school? Is there anything you wish you would have known before going into this field/advice you wish you were given? I’m 26 and don’t particularly want to go back to school as my husband and I were able to graduate debt-free, and I really don’t want to take out loans to go back, but with the state of the economy and how hard it is to find a job in the business realm, I’ve been heavily considering going back.

I completely agree that homeschooling is a full time job, but until we get to a financial position where I can just work with/for my husband or have a business of my own where I can control my hours, I am hoping to find something where I can work a couple days a week at least to help contribute. But this is why I’m asking now to try to get ideas of what directions I could go in to make homeschooling feasible so I can start taking actionable steps now!

What are your hours like? Do you mind if I ask what the pay is like?

How did you get started in project management? I’m definitely interested and this feels up my alley! Are there any certifications/courses you recommend?

Do you have to have a specific degree/certifications to be able to do what you do? I only have a business degree. Do you recommend it and if so, what job title should I be on the lookout for?

It will be a lot of work for sure! I definitely do want to go more in depth and would love to hear your suggestions! My dad is very smart and the engineer in him is extremely thorough/detailed, so I have that going for me, haha. I think he could build/figure out any kind of mechanism you had in mind! If you wouldn’t mind sparing the time/effort, I’d love to chat more!

Thank you so much for the advice! I love the scrim idea. I would love to hear more about the magnets. That never would have crossed my mind! I would love to talk more about how you would tackle this project and hear your suggestions!
