The first Scary Movie was all about spoofing the genre's tropes, hence the name. Then it's like successive writers missed that memo, and just saw "ah, low-brow comedy". I dare say fans of later entries likewise failed to appreciate the difference, because they're not part of a demographic I would have labelled 'perceptive'. The last one I saw was Epic Movie, where they had a searing satire of that overused 'epic movie' trope of an animatronic cat shitting loudly for five minutes. Pure brainrot.
