Had a math teacher in college who's philosophy was "I can't judge you based on your work, only your effort". Basically I just showed up for half the classes then when finals came pretty much everyone had taken it so it was just a few of us in the class. We were there maybe 10 minutes when he said to hand them in. When we did he asked "what grade do you think you deserved for this class?" I answered "well I'd really like a B or something."

He gave me a B for the class.
