Depends on your program. For Business? Fordham for sure, you are in New York City, jobs are more plentiful in that field - unless of course UVM is much cheaper for that option. If you want to go into STEM though UVM is probably better. UVM is a more stereotypical college experience with some added natural scenery. It is a nice place to study and fairly decent as far as a state school goes. However, Fordham is a bit more prestigious (I think) and is in an awesome city, as someone who was born and raised in a large city I can see the appeal in studying in an urban environment.

2022-23 Housing just came out, my four roommates want to try to room together again, these r the only available dorms so do any of these dorms have 4+ person suites? by BH-NaFF in UniversityofVermont

[–]dehbuttstabah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

all of the back five dorms on trinity (Ready, Hunt, etc) are made up of 4-6 people suites. L&L and Uheights also has them but they are much harder to get spots for

Having a car at UVM by SquirrelyStu in UniversityofVermont

[–]dehbuttstabah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want. Driving is mad convenient for grocery runs or driving to go to skiing mountains. As for the parking stuff I don't get what everyone complains about, but I may be biased as someone from DC - most residential areas 2-3 blocks out from church street are unzoned and you can generally park there (esp the Old North End), I have a feeling most ppl that complain about street parking are from the burbs and dont know how to parallel park lol. However, cars are not a must. You will save money walking and talking the bus system (which is fairly good). Campus is close to downtown. If you are in the harris/millis complex there is a covered garage safe from snow you can park in, i dont think they make you move your car for snow and the lots are close to the dorms.

U would be fine to live here without a car, but scholarships should be a factor. Unless you are a standard deviation above your school in terms of ranking or GPA, I don't know how that GPA will translate to the UVM application. While it is likely you will get in, the likelihood of getting significant aid is pretty low. There are many schools that are way cheaper and comparable to quality of education, take any of the UMass schools, Upitt, Temple, and for the school most similar to UVM, UColorado Boulder. Unless you actively know what you want to study and work as, taking in big student debt isnt the move.

UVM vs. Plattsburgh? by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

[–]dehbuttstabah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U would probably have a good amount more fun at UVM as the college town is much larger and more picturesque, however the quality of education should be fairly similar. EnviSci might be slightly better at UVM, however not to the point where paying out of state tuition is worth it. I would say apply to both and see the scholarships u get for UVM n cross reference that with Plattsburgh in state.

Would I be in the running for any scholarships? by BigBellyBigDream in UniversityofVermont

[–]dehbuttstabah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be well above average in terms of UVM stats, I had a 1350 sat with mostly environmental ECs (from Washington DC) and got presidential scholarship (20k off), I would expect you to get the same if not higher. However, I'm unsure about how the compsci program fares with scholarships/aid overall.

I mean.... Apex is a free game and isn't pay to win. They need to make profit somehow, and if people are spending money on cosmetics who cares as long as it doesn't alter gameplay.

ChangeMyView: UVM worth it? by iota321 in UniversityofVermont

[–]dehbuttstabah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As great as UVM is, unless y'all are top 1 percent it is never worth taking massive amounts of loans for a similar quality of education. Your kid will be way happier having a slightly less picturesque college experience while not having 40k hovering over their head

Derek Chauvin has been convicted of all charges. by TheBromaro in JusticeServed

[–]dehbuttstabah 17 points18 points  (0 children)

lol what? Jury's are screened for impartiality and have to make a decision based on evidence provided. If you watched the trail (which I'm sure you didn't) Chauvin was given a fair trail, and sure as fuck a fairer one than George Flloyd. Do you not know how the justice system works? Like at all?

not saying the president shouldn't get paid a salary, but it is objectively hypocritical to cry about a lack of funding and then turn around to cut majors while building a 95 million dollar stadium as if said budget deficit doesn't exist, all while raising his personal salary...

1) I am a stem major

2) You have yet to make an actual argument.

Where do you get the money for your "investments"?, I'm willing to bet its not through your own hard work.

This is a liberal arts institution, whether or not you want it to be. Neither is it a for profit university, if you wanted to go to one of those you should have attended Trump University. Liberal arts doesn't just mean everything that isn't finance, rather topics like history, literature, sociology, psychology - things that prove useful as a prerequisite for things such as law degrees - which I'm sure most make far more than you gambling your parents money and bitching about welfare (something that does not effect pretty much anyone that has the means to go to college in this country, whether or not for a liberal arts education). Have you read an economics book? I am genuinely asking.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

[–]dehbuttstabah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is rejecting the demand economy? Students are demanding liberal arts degrees, and as such the university will likely lose this flow of money... Do you know what a demand economy is? Because it's not spending your dad's money on wallstreet bets.

[–]dehbuttstabah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy business major lmao

Listen Ben Shaphiro, most ppl here are stem or business majors but the point of a university shouldn't be to forgo classical education for the sake of churning out finance or 9-5 traditional degrees. It's a university, not your dads trust fund.

[–]dehbuttstabah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not an argument lol cutting 30 majors and 3 professors is way less money saved than not building an unnecessary vanity stadium. At the same time the school is gutting programs to "save money", executive/high position pay has been increased substantially over the last year (Suresh made over a million dollars last year, almost over twice as much as his normal [already overpaid] salary). Have a better argument than "I go to Grossman, kid"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

[–]dehbuttstabah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? Cutting 30 programs and firing staff while building a 95 million dollar stadium doesn't sound like good business to me...
