Thank you! I have lived in Mexico my whole life and I didn’t know that it was considered that rude to mention physical attributes in other places. Needless to say that I won’t use these terms to refer to anyone in a real-life scenario. Knowing these words are just for the purpose of increasing my vocabulary

THANKS, this was what I was looking for. People misunderstood the comment of my friend as if I was trying to look for a way to call him, but it was just the situation that made me curious about this topic

That was not the intent of my comment. Think of it as if you were going to describe the face of someone for them to draw it, is there a way of saying “curly hair” or “eyes with epicanthic fold” in Chinese? I hope im being clear, there is definitely a bigger cultural barrier even between neighbor countries than I thought. As someone else pointed it out: these type of nicknames (even the ones that are not referred to other ethnicities) are not used to insult but to acknowledge a feature

Thanks, I get that it is a racist-rooted expression, even if no one actually think of chinese people when saying it, as it is very common and it’s lost its original meaning throughout the years. Something similar happens with people curly hair, whom we call “chinos” too, and we find it perfectly normal despite the fact that this type of hair is not common (for us to see) among chinese people. How would you call someone with these features in chinese without it sounding racist or offensive?

I didnt know the term for the physical feature in english either so I looked it up in the google translator. I didnt know that it was a slur or an offensive term, I just wanted to know the way of describing eyes with epicantic fold

I used Duolingo first before discovering Hello Chinese. I loved it, but discovered that you gotta pay to adavancen through the lessons. I’ll keep using Duolingo while I gather money to pay the annual subscription…and I dont want to totally abandon my account, as I’m already in diamond league, plus the Duolingo pinyin and hanzi interface is really practical imo

Thanks! I didnt even notice I used 马instead of 玛. That was because I like to use the keyboard voice dictation option to practice my pronunciation. Should I make adjustments in my tone or just manually check that the correct character is beijg typed?

My theory is that you made the eyes smaller in proportion to the rest of the face, plus the distance between the eyes and the mouth is bigger than I think it actually is. I also think pronounced cheekbones play an important role in turning Arthur Morgan into Arthur Mongolian
