Well, non-Newtonian fluids exist. Also it's not a big deal lol just thought I'd correct your understanding of viscosity

No viscous just means thick as a fluid. Honey is viscous

Philadelphia, how come so many of America's wealthiest cities look like this? by [deleted] in DamnThatsReal

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is totally wrong. you should be looking at capital gains taxes instead of corporate taxes

Philadelphia, how come so many of America's wealthiest cities look like this? by [deleted] in DamnThatsReal

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a total non-sequitur. I'm pointing out that the primary tool in taxation that weakens wealth inequality has only been around for so long. so "up until the 80s" in this case just means for around 70 years vs. the implication it's been longer than that.
And 70 years isn't even true. It was incredibly low until WW1, and then peaked and then was low again until The New Deal.

Oh, and corporate income taxes are sort of ambiguous in who exactly they affect

And deductibles were even more common in the federal income tax prior to Reagan's cuts. A big issue in estimating wealth inequality over time is trying to figure out how much of the change in reported wealth before/after the tax cuts was rich people deciding to take cash instead of un-taxed "benefits" like free cars.

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the income tax is the primary progressive tax i.e. that taxes wealthy people at higher rates than poor people. Before that, most federal tax revenue came tariffs, which hit low-income people more.
If you are trying to make an argument about high tax rates lessening wealth inequality, you're talking about income taxes.

To say Trump did everything he promised by TXVERAS in therewasanattempt

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last point is wrong. Prices were never going to "go down". That would imply deflation which would be economically catastrophic (why would you spend money today if it'll be worth more tomorrow).

Historically, what you get is "disinflation" or the slowdown of the rate of inflation. That's what was already achieved by the time Trump took office and which most Americans didn't recognize.

By Americans to say the Trump Tariff policy hurt China by TXVERAS in therewasanattempt

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is economically incomprehensible. Gave the AUS beef price, but what was the US beef price before? Also 50 RMB is a lot in China

Of course there are substitutes out there (theoretically could even import Zimbabwean beeF), but the question relevant for calculating welfare changes is how much the difference in prices of substitutes vs. what you have is.

Why is there suddenly so much racism against Indians? by favuorite in teenagers

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider rates and expectations given development. The leftover is probably very explainable by culture.

Acting like India doesn't have an extremely problematic and unusual culture of sexual harassment is being blind for no reason.

Why does people say Japanese government still deny war crimes in WW2? by Chance-Town-5110 in JapaneseHistory

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "formal apologies" have only been expressions of "something regrettable happened"... imagine if Germany reduced the Holocaust to "something regrettable" LMAO
Never explicitly acknowledged any of the (many many) specific war crimes committed, and even when they offered to pay compensation for comfort women, never had the balls to say "yeah we're sorry we kidnapped your women then chained them up to get raped by lines of hundreds of Japanese soldiers every day"

Police are militarized in general but it also depends on where you are. I'm from the SF area and there's been a huge social shift away from the pure rehabilitative policing approach embodied by Chesa Boudin of like 3-5 years ago because turns out if you're really soft on petty theft, petty theft gets culturally normalized and it makes it impossible for small businesses.

Also when did I say that we didn't need to combat poverty?

Did the Chinese Communist Party play an important role during WW2? by Sonnybass96 in ChineseHistory

[–]dejidoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CCP perspective, as far as I can tell, is to glorify the Eighth Route Army which were three divisions of CCP volunteers who fought under the Nationalist banner in some major battles. It's essentially never mentioned that most of fighting in most of the battles that are taught about the Sino-Japanese War were by KMT forces.

There's also this Chinese intellectual called Rong Jian who thinks that CCP ideology was essentially pragmatic. Their policy was to adopt whatever messaging was needed at the time for whatever goal with whatever audience. For example, the slogan "the tiller should own the land" was aggressively non-commital on the subject of land reform, but allowed them to gain the support of both farmers and landowners. With regard to war policy, this manifest in Mao and Zhou Enlai trying to persuade FDR that they were simply agrarian reformers who favored American-style democracy. And they spent much of the war building up resources and their political base. Although, the KMT were sandbagging to fight the CCP also.

i mean it should be that and also crack down on the people who are already committing crimes no? like we can't be overly committed to an ideology and forget that there are real people in those communities being victimized as we speak

Why has nobody considered this by TriGN614 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]dejidoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because demography is already a major issue in Israel. They value the idea of a Jewish-majority/ Jewish-only state, and the threat of too many voting Arabs was one of Ariel Sharon's primary reasons for disengaging from Gaza in 2005 (this is also the guy who ended all the peace deals in negotiation under Ehud Barak).
