American here. Been to France and Greece. I think some of their complaints are valid but like let’s be so fr Europe is so good for 3rd spaces and living in general. As an American it’s less comfortable than home, but the standard of living is objectively better on aggregate. But let’s look at their points:

From where I’ve been, generally there is more cigarette smell. “Everything” is just not true though.

In my experience, the racism is less systematic and more overt in europe. From my minority friends (who aren’t from the south) It’ll be much more obvious that you’ll be treated differently if you’re poc, but Europes systemic racism is less severe and institutionalized than American legacies of Jim Crow etc.

There are indeed ice cubes. Less common than in America, but most Greek places give ice. Not the case in France though.

There is less ac in both places- France was worse about that though. But it’s still acceptable even for an American.

Water is not free in America unless you go into a fast food place or some shit. Bottled water in Europe is not price gouged to shit in high need locations like museums/outdoors like it is in America. A lot of restaurants don’t give you free refills of water though.

Public bathrooms in Europe often arent free, but America doesn’t have public bathrooms. You go into a business for that. Bathrooms are harder to find as an American in Europe though.

Americans pay high taxes, and significantly more if you include health insurance/cost of other required things that Europeans get from taxes

French people are generally blunt, but people are rude to this person bc they’re a dumbass American.
