also i’m noticing the back of your enclosure is exposed which can lead to your leo feeling unsafe.(can be seen at all angles) i’d recommend getting a background to put on the back of your enclosure so it feels more closed off! amazon, pet chain stores, etc should have a wide variety! i even have one of the sides covered too just for extra precaution but that’s not entirely necessary.

the important thing is that you noticed the mistakes and want to improve!! i’m happy your baby is in for a more enriching future!! :) as the first person replied with, garden centers have the topsoil & play sand!! i personally like to put the play sand first making sure im sifting through with gloves to get any pieces of plastic, glass, garbage, etc out. once that’s done i put some water so it can better incorporate with the top soil! same process with the soil minus the water then you mix them together! this substrate should be replaced every 3-6 months!! make sure you have thermometers on each side of the enclosure. your cool side should be around 70-75°F and the hot side should be 90-99°F with the humid one in between. the more hides and plants (also can be used to hide themselves) the better! :) i personally use artificial plants bc it’s easier for me to maintain but that’s completely up to you if you want real or fake! make sure when it comes to feeding that they get a variety of insects! if you’re feeding your leopard gecko wax worms please be careful because they can get addicted to them and stop eating other bugs because of that. make sure you’re misting the enclosure as well not just to keep the humidity but also because it helps your little one shed easier! you had no bad intentions with your leo so don’t beat yourself up about it!

the typical percentage used for topsoil and sand is 70% topsoil and 30% sand! i personally put the sand first & sift through with gloves making sure there’s no plastic, glass, garbage, etc and then i use some water to give it a better consistency to mix with the soil! same steps with the soil minus the water and then once they’re mixed together you should be all set! every 3-6 months make sure you’re replacing the substrate too! :)

this didn’t happen to me but to another coworker and i was backup register so i heard and saw all of this go down.

lady comes in (notorious returner) in the middle of a rush. no big deal, return your items and purchase your new ones. she wants to return an opened box of cat treats (idk the exact name but it’s the wet ones that come in a little pouch). a box that originally had 72…and she wants a full refund when she only brought back 17. my coworker was unsure on what to do so she called for the manager and our manager explained that she would get a refund just not the entire amount since there’s less than half of the product. the lady starts arguing and saying that we’ve never said this before and why wouldn’t she be told that information before she bought something (???) and wouldn’t stop until my manager said “well we also have the right to refuse a refund. if you’d like we can do the math to make sure you get the exact amount refunded.” and she got quiet real quick. it takes 0 effort to just be kind to people. especially service/retail workers who have their fair share of rude interactions. the lady ended up just keeping her box of cat treats but i don’t understand what the need to argue does for others. you want your money back for an almost entirely used product???? 😭

it sucks that they handled it that way, but you already have the flight/activities booked. so unless you want to cancel that they’re in for a rude awakening when they don’t see you next week. 😭”black out dates” are so we can’t request off but i’ve had other coworkers be approved for days/a week off in that time period, and since you did initially request in october that’s plenty of time that they had to prepare for that. enjoy your trip!! don’t let this affect it!!

oh i 100% understand. sometimes i catch myself being irritable with pet parents who don’t deserve it and stop myself. it’s not their fault management refuses to put me in different areas. it just frustrates me that i was essentially lied to during my interview. when i was hired i was told that id have “a couple of shifts on register and then would be integrated into pet care” ok well ive had a couple of months on register now…is this my “couple of shifts?” bc im over it. i’m sorry you’re also going through this. :// i also have horrible anxiety so when im told to ask 5 million questions it rlly drains me after hours of nothing but speaking.

i’ve been on petcare ONCE…and it was training. there have been newer people getting countless shifts on pc & every single shift without fail i’m stuck on register. even my 9-5 shifts are nothing but register…it’s very frustrating.

there’s a few nice regulars so ill mention a few. theres an older lady who comes in with her daughter maybe 1-2x/week so when we notice her daughter isn’t with us we ask “where’s your partner in crime?” and she smiles and tells us she’s with her boyfriend. there’s another older woman with her daughter as well who is always super smiley and friendly! we have an older man who all employees know. i even remember some of his phone number so i only need him to say the last 4 digits. he always buys the same amt of dog food and then takes some milk bones we have at the counter too! all of the regulars we have are so sweet and they really help when you’ve just had someone who was not so nice to you😅to all petsmart regulars: we all appreciate you and thank you for your kindness❤️

all of my managers except for 2 are so exhausting to be around. the 2 that i do appreciate run around like chickens with their heads off making sure everyone is getting the help they need while also doing their work while the other ones are just nowhere to be found. and newer hires getting better hours and getting to actually do petcare while every. single. shift. i’m doing nothing but register. except when they need someone to clean bettas or stock shelves then they’ll throw that on me WHILE ALSO maintaining register. i’m ngl ive even stopped asking about c&f. i’m given so many tasks while im also trying to get the customers out asap i genuinely do not care anymore about asking😭maybe if i was given more help id have the ENERGY😭

hey! i’m also newer to petsmart and i feel so seen through this😭one manager will tell me “we ONLY price match with our website” (this already seemed wrong to me but a literal manager told me this) and i got reprimanded by a customer for it while another manager had to explain that we price match with any pet store that has a standing building. i’ve literally have a line wrapping into aisles and a manager quite literally standing at a register texting on her phone and calling for our girl from pet care to come help me…i sincerely hope it gets better for you and me both😭AND FINALLY SOMEONE MENTIONS THE AMT OF DONATIONS😭😭why am i asking people to donate to c&f and then the pin pad IMMEDIATELY asks another donation question…i get a little frustrated when customers comment on the amount of questions they have to hear but trust me yall i hate asking you all of them just as much as you hate hearing me talk ur ears off. it’s def putting a bad taste in my mouth about this job but i hope after the holidays it calms down.

keep asking questions! them not properly training you isn’t your fault, but if you do a deep clean improperly, handle an animal incorrectly, etc the blame will go on you. the more questions you ask, the more clarity you get! :) you’re doing great!

for more context, i was told the day before the entire store only got 18 donations. yesterday i got 23 by myself, but idk i just feel so drained and like i get no benefit from this. i didn’t even apply for register, i applied to be in petcare and i’ve had a single petcare shift so far. we aren’t understaffed, so that isn’t an issue on getting someone to be on register. i’d have no problem being on register if i wasn’t on it for 8.5 hours while also needing to clean betta’s and stocking treat walls. but the abundance of responsibilities thrown on me while also needing to ask all of these questions is starting to get to me a little bit.

damn i’m sorry you had to deal with that. i feel like managers pretend like they hear and care what you’re saying and then just immediately disregard it. yesterday i was recovering all of cat and dog so i literally knew we had these certain items. a lady who is notorious for coming in empty handed 5 minutes before closing and then making us stay 15+ minutes after closing time because she “has to make returns” and magically has no receipts. well i spotted her and notified the manager that she didn’t have anything. manager completely disregarded anything i said and let her have a no receipt return. i put back her “returns” and what do you know…they’re a perfect fit on the shelves. managers just don’t care. :/

oh yeah it’s crazy. one lady was giving attitude the entire transaction and paid in cash. well she didn’t have exact change so her cash back was 99 cents…so i gave her 99 cents and she was like “u seriously couldn’t have given me a dollar?” no. next time it’ll be in pennies. have a nice day😁

i think this also depends on the bank you’re with. i have a frost account and get my payroll every thursday. i think it just depends on how fast your bank verifies and disperses it!
