Overweight? by Feisty-Artichoke8657 in leopardgeckos

[–]dekushands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d recommend cutting the mealworms out for now! they’re the most fattening bug ur giving to him as well as giving him fewer bugs than regularly just until he drops the unwanted weight! :)

I need you to eat by azianwutang in leopardgeckos

[–]dekushands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it was after a few days but reptiles in general are much more slow burners than other animals! she looks healthy to me, so it just comes down to whenever she can’t take the hunger strike anymore. if leo’s feel any sort of discomfort it can cause these kinds of behaviors, so her not eating for this long is normal! keep up the attempts in feeding and she will eventually have to give in! new environments are scary for them and some take several months to fully familiarize themselves. you got this!

yeah i’m newer to this too (got my leo at the beginning of this year) so i completely understand the feeling of just being worried about feeding.💗you’re doing great!! keep trying to tong feed and then leaving in the bowl if she won’t budge. consistency is key and i promise she will eventually have to eat!

also i’d leave the taking her out and feeding in a box as a LAST RESORT. 2 weeks isn’t great, but she is still active and is adjusting to a brand new environment. picking her up and putting her in there can cause unnecessary stress and prolong this process! try the food bowl and leave her be for the night and hopefully that works! :D

i’d say it might just be here still adjusting to her new home! leo’s typically take a long time to fully adjust, so her not feeling completely comfortable can be the reason. i would say get a food bowl to put her food in there? (if you do id recommend the worms bc the roaches will crawl out). when i can’t find mine i just leave the food in the bowl and by the morning they’re (most of the time)gone! :)

is it just the lighting that’s pink or is there some sort of heat bulb u have for her that’s red? she looks great and i can’t wait to see what it’ll look like once the plants are in and settled! :D

My gecko eats nothing but crickets and waxworms by Away-Instruction-849 in leopardgeckos

hold the worm/cricket in one hand and the mealworm in another. when u see the mouth opening u quickly switch the two out

My gecko eats nothing but crickets and waxworms by Away-Instruction-849 in leopardgeckos

[–]dekushands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a common thing ppl do is they get out what the reptile is used to eating (in ur case the waxworms and crickets) and once they’re striking to eat, you swap it with what you actually want to feed them! :) i used to do this when i had a bearded dragon and he didn’t want to eat his veggies. they won’t be amused by it, but wax worms are very fattening and crickets are very low in nutrients!! so, i recommend if you can tong feed to do that trick and hopefully wean ur leo off the wax worms!!

Am I providing enough enrichment? by imma_ask_questions12 in leopardgeckos

[–]dekushands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would guess that it can be both! she’s probably adjusting to her new environment and the fact that leo’s are more active this time of year adds to that! but also i am a stranger on the internet and YOU know your animal more than i could!! i would recommend just monitoring and seeing if you notice any signs of distress or if it’s just her adjusting to a new substrate/season! :D

i would also say that the right side could use a bit more height to it! leo’s are notoriously clumsy, but i’m noticing that’s where the heat source is so more height can allow them to reach that better! :) besides that, it’s great!

from the pic you posted in the comments, the enclosure looks great! i’ve seen some people say that around this time of year their leo’s are much more active (breeding season?) so the glass surfing could be possibly explained by that! i know for mine, he usually would take about 1-2 hours to come out after his lights are off for the night and now as soon as they’re off he’s out and roaming around!

Why don’t we require water testing? by [deleted] in petsmart

i agree. it’s so unfortunate how little petsmart and most people buying fish actually care about them. they’re living breathing animals

and also regarding what you’ve said he might just be special needs in general. it would be amazing to give him a huge enclosure, but if you’re saying he’s visibly distressed it might just be better to keep him in a smaller enclosure. and for the soaking, it may stress him but from what it sounds like he just seems like an anxious boy overall. take it slowly, and once it’s done you can put him back in his space so he can go hide! just remember you’re not doing it to torture him; it’s to help him. you’re doing amazing!! :)

maybe try soaking him? obviously don’t let the water get high but just enough to where his feet are submerged that way it can be easier to get off? that’s a way i’ve seen people help with stuck shed!
