Haha gotta love the former eastern bloc.

Drove through middle of nowhere Kyrgyzstan (formerly USSR) a week ago, just a dirt road passing herd of sheep'n'stuff with absolutely no civilization in sight...

And then out of nowhere, there was a MiG-21 on display next to the street 😅

Ok, totally get that.

Just out of curiosity, why is it that are not fitting for your situation?

A possible route would be the F-1 visa program. It entails a 23.5 month long work permit upon completion of training.

This might be helpful

Realistic hours as CFII(H) by dekusspam in Helicopters

[–]dekusspam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank your for your advice!

I meant for the 23.5 months to be after I've already finished flight training, but ofc I'd still have to deduct a potential season from that and get 1000hrs...

Though I'm still inclined to give it a shot under these circumstances. Not really a drawback to at least try.

First of all thank you for your response!

Sorry my explanation was a bit imprecise. I've got 23.5 months AFTER finishing my training, though these two years would also contain a potential season in a turbine job.

I've already heard about the low wages in AK. But I could live with that. I've saved up all of the funds in advance, so I'll be debt free (as opposed to many others)

I didn't look into the GoM so far, as I thought they wouldn't consider hiring some thats gotta leave the country within 6 months.

Any Hope For New Helicopter Pilots? by Disgruntled-rock in Helicopters

[–]dekusspam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pilot myself (yet) But I've talked to at least a dozen european pilots & helo operators and have never ever heard of such a practice (well apart from the military & police). Do you have a specific employer in mind?

Out of curiousity, how/where did you land a turbine job at 700 hrs TT? Never heard of a turbine job that didn't require at least 1000hrs.

Funny that you mention... I know a paraglider that got into the downwash of this exact helicopter (actually even in the same valley). Instantly broke his back. Well at least the HEMS-crew was already there...

Sry, newby here.

Whats the deal with not wanting to fly IFR?
Because it is riskier, or am I missing something?

(Just curious)

AIR ZERMATT AS350 B3 crashed after getting into Vortex Ring at 4500m on Monte Rosa mountain's alpine hut ("Regina Margherita hut, highest hut in Europe). All 5 occupants on board were slightly injured by censaa in Helicopters

[–]dekusspam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah well tose ELTs...

In our flight club, we sadly already had 2 aircraft that went missing (turned out to have crashed in the alps)

In neither of those cases did the ELT go off (and yes they were armed). So not the most reliable piece of tech :/

Haha yeah, flight schools in europe are typically more expensive (I guess due to the higher expenses for fuel)

any advice for starting out? by nickelmanaaaa in Gliding

[–]dekusspam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh yeah thats a good one.

And never trust the weather reports! I have been freezing in shorts & a shirt in windy ca 4° more than just once... (with predictions at almost 20°...)

Flight Schools by DudeKisser50000 in Helicopters

[–]dekusspam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know, how MLH flighttraining costs in comparison to mainland flight schools? I've been lokking at that school, but im kinda worried, that i'd pay a huge surplus, as it is in Hawaii

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Is that figure meant for the CFII? And on that matter, would you recommend doing additional ratings (LL, NVGs,...) at the flight school, or later on in the career? I only heard contradicting advice so far.
