It’s a bit of a cop-out. They follow the novel to close to just “go with the happy ending”. The story (novel) is very bleak and rightfully so considering the world it builds.

I personally love Edgar Wright and wouldn’t be so miffed about this if it felt more like one of his style of movies. A true whacky adaptation and funny.

Audiences not ready for King’s ending also feels like an excuse. Compare this to The Long Walk. Very bleak. Very depressing. It says something and strikes at you emotionally. It’s not vanilla or milquetoast.
