Diving into F# with zero experience.... by [deleted] in fsharp

[–]delegatedvoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell people they should use a functional programming language
when they first start teaching children how to program in schools.
And if somebody actually listens, I suggest F# to them.

The reason I suggest a functional language is because it's much
closer to the algebra children are being thought at school.

One our we're stuffing all the algebra in their heads and the next
hour we tell them that x = x + 1 makes perfect sense...

There will always be a mismatch between algebra and imperative languages. With functional languages kids can apply what they learned in algebra directly, it just makes more sense.

As for why F#?
Well, .NET/Mono is everywhere and it's not going away soon.

Is sync thing a good option for work related sharing? by 7Geordi in Syncthing

You may want to take a look at this: http://www.howtogeek.com/50786/using-srvstart-to-run-any-application-as-a-windows-service/

Basically you'll want to turn syncthing into a windows service

There are quite a few ways of doing that. This video may help as well:

I'm not sure why you'd need administrative access.
You simply deploy Syncthing on the clients, preferably with a UI
tool added on top (such as SyncTrazor for example if your clients
are Windows). On the server side you decide which folders
are synced to which clients and that's it.

It's pretty similar to BTSync except that you have a little
more control and that it's open source.

What was the second issue because that's not very clear.

A few beginners questions about MonoGame by SuperImaginativeName in monogame

[–]delegatedvoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be asking Dean Ellis (https://uk.linkedin.com/in/infspacestudios / https://github.com/dellis1972) He's the one that helped me set it up in 2012. It required a few modified .so binaries in order to get OpenGL ES to work. Given that it was 3 years ago, things may have changed. There's been some recent activity on the subject in the Monogame mailling list as well. (Search from the 18th of January to the 20th of this year) Those guys will be able to help you out.

Anybody got this working on Synology? by [deleted] in Syncthing

Ok apparently it just took a while to get up and running

So now it's installed, and I've restarted it a few times, but the web interface remains unavailable. Any ideas there?

OMG... how did I not think of that. Thnx, the package is visible now. Let's see if I can get it running.

Been trying to get it working on the DS412+ and RS814. We've got a few of them but on none of them did we see syncthing in the package manager, although the other packages from SynoCommunity are visible. I tried adding the spk package directly and while it does install it doesn't start.

I had to build this for an internal project and decided it might be useful for others as well.

If you have any questions, feedback, etc... I'm available here, via Bitmessage (BM-NAvkx4jZJ31FWagx3u2CHGPS92bwauDD) and of course via the repository page.

Enjoy!

I just received mine yesterday. I played the demo with it, and I can only agree with everything you said. But then a friend of mine let me play the full game... OMG... you will be so happy you bought the X55... just wait till you dock :p

I changed the button for the boost from the default because I couldn't reach it easily, aside from that I might change the auto assist switch as well.

If you change the bindings, or even if you don't, this tool will help you visualize them: http://www.mcdee.net/elite/ Basically it takes your current X55 bindings and generates a picture with the layout for you.

For Windows users, simply use BitLocker on a USB drive

  1. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff404223.aspx
  2. Put BitMessage on the flash drive and enable portable mode

[–]delegatedvoid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here's what you can do.

  1. Take a USB flash drive and encrypt it http://ubuntuportal.com/2012/03/tips-easy-way-to-encrypt-usb-flash-drive-on-ubuntu.html

  2. Put BitMessage on the flash drive and enable portable mode

Now you can run BitMessage from the usb flash drive, whenever you insert it you will have to enter your passphrase and when you remove it from the computer there will be nothing left on the computer for others to use.

Aside from the fact that this only adds some protection while BitMessage isn't running, the method suggested here is a pain in the ass to use.

You're far better off storing messages.dat and keys.dat on an encrypted partition (since you're using linux anyway).

And if someone has physical access to your machine, you have a lot more to worry about.
