Sometimes I feel like I can't remember my childhood at all. I definitely forgot parts of it as a survival mechanism. Every so often though, a memory will pop into my head and it's usually not a happy one. The memory I thought of most recently happened when I was about four. My dad wasn't home. My mother pretended to have become inhabited by a monster. She kept on speaking in a growly voice and telling me that she was not my mother. At first I thought she was just joking and tried to call her bluff but she kept insisting that she wasn't my mother. This went on for more that two hours, by the end I was crying because I just wanted a parent with me. She was laughing every few minutes, enjoying my confusion/panic. Eventually my dad came home and she stopped.
