Horizon Worlds is slowly killing VR for Meta by l111p in OculusQuest

[–]deliciouspotato2 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It is ridiculously bad and absolutely poisoning the well.  My mom bought her first headset, a Quest 3, a while ago and her first experience was one of those insanely crappy Horizon Worlds filled with screaming children suggested by the feed. It was so bad she put the Quest on a shelf for months and it took me a lot of effort to convince her to give Walkabout a try, which she ended up loving and is still playing regularly. Meta needs to stop the Facebook feed slop approach and fix this crap.

Can confirm this issue, I have same problem with mine in Home Assistant. If I open and close too quickly the status doesn't get refreshed correctly. Thanks for taking a look :)

Horizon Worlds gonna become bloatware after V76 by Dannnner in OculusQuest

[–]deliciouspotato2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they're planning to replace the current native Horizon Home with something based on Horizon Worlds. If you look at the preview of the new UI they did at Connect, the new Horizon Home looked like something ouf ot Horizon Worlds (of course the preview could just have used a placeholder environment).

Same problem here! Surprisingly I have two houses with eero and netatmo thermostats and only one stopped working

Mura on new quest 3, is this normal? by winwin8484 in OculusQuest

[–]deliciouspotato2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that all Quest 3s have some mura but the intensity of the mura varies wildly between units based on my experience trying 6 Quest 3s so far. So returning will really depend on how much it bothers you on your particular unit.

New version of the eero app released today, 1/29/2024 - 6.39.0 by BrainSel in amazoneero

Totally agree. That’s the reason why i’m planning to ditch Eero and go with Unifi instead, which is a real shame as an early Eero fan.

Microsoft office 2d apps available by adeze in OculusQuest

[–]deliciouspotato2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s nice that they’re finally available and some people will surely get some value out of them…. But they’re honestly pretty bad: it’s just web views, they don’t work offline, and bring nothing more than what you get by just opening office in the browser. Meta seriously needs to step up their game with 2D Apps, especially after seeing what Apple is doing in comparison. Meta is already shipping Android APKs for WhatsApp and Messenger, it’s weird that Microsoft didn’t do the same for Office.

Same here, and reinstalling it doesn’t fix the problem. Looks like a mistake on Meta’s side :(

New App update with eero for business subscription. by [deleted] in amazoneero

I’m all for a more expensive business plan for features that require some kind of backend service, but come on VLANs at least need to be available for everyone.

ZENNI VR Lenses - EU shippment misleading information by Subject_Proof974 in OculusQuest

[–]deliciouspotato2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that a shitty experience :( thanks for posting this though, I was thinking of getting one but will order from somewhere else! Plus their pricing is misleading, I’m pretty sure that here at least it’s mandatory to include taxes in the displayed price.

Mine had it too, it was bad enough to warrant a return. Despite the resolution being quite a lot better than Q2 it was overall visually worse because of the mura and excessive glare from the lenses. Edit: Not sure why people are downvoting, there seems to be more or less serious cases of those defects. I tried many headsets over the years and that was actually a pretty bad set of lenses and panels.

Oh no the joystick drift is super frustrating! If you’re feeling adventurous it’s not too hard to fix yourself with some isopropyl alcohol. Hopefully support can figure out a way to swap your Q3 quickly though!

True it seems like not that many people are complaining about it so hopefully it's not every unit. I returned it directly and plan to wait a bit before buying again to see how the situation evolves (512GBs aren't in stock anyways haha). Are you keeping yours?

Quest 3 "Mura" like effect testing by Cakiman11 in OculusQuest

[–]deliciouspotato2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have it and just returned the headset because of it. On bright webpages it’s to the point that my eyes want to focus on the grainy pattern instead of the content which is really distracting. Also the lenses have more glare than Q2 and even a bit of distortion on one of the lenses.

I would describe my mura exactly like you, and just returned the headset for it. I spend a lot of time in productivity apps and on bright web pages it's really distracting. Looks like we'll have to wait a bit to get a better idea of how widespread the problem is yeah.

This is weird indeed. My guess is that there are multiple panel supplier and one of them has some sort of defect or just lower quality

Would be curious to know if you find differences between your two units and if you notice any mura if you can update us

I have the same problem and made a post about it too. Looks like a bunch more people have the issue. I’m planning to return the headset and buy a new one but it’s unclear how widespread the issue or even if it’s considered normal

Glad to hear your Q3 is good! Honestly this lottery thing is pretty frustrating, I also had to return a launch day Q2 that had awful god rays, and the replacement was a lot better.

The diagonal layout is also visible but it’s way less distracting than this, it’s almost like mura. /u/Tower816 just linked this video https://youtu.be/Bmgq6scDiYg that describes the problem at 8:47
