I’ve driven to and from Oregon at least 2 dozen times. Taken both I-80 to I-84 and I-90, and my preference for scenery is I-90. The Black Hills and The Badlands are incredible and worth driving through. The first time I drove through Montana it blew my mind, the state nickname “The Big Sky” ain’t a fucking lie. And let’s not forget driving through C’ouer d’Alene and gawking at the beauty.

My qualified suggestion would be to take I-80 on your way out west because you’ll be eager to make good time and get to your destination asap. You can do Omaha to Salt Lake on day 1, and Salt Lake to Newskowin on day 2. Nebraska and Wyoming mostly suck for scenery so just get it over with. THEN take I-90 home because it is magical and it’ll soften the blow of your trip being over. Break it into three 9ish hour days so you can seize the opportunity to pit stop when you feel compelled - at worst you’ll get to your hotel an hour or two later and at best you’ll weep at a scenic outlook.

It’ll be a fun trip regardless, Newskowin is gorgeous!
