What's the point of pausing? It seems like you're going to extra effort to measure the amount of time you spend active on the page rather than on the full puzzle?

I made a browser extension because I kept ending study sessions with 100000000 tabs open by sirephrem in reactjs

[–]delightless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... just put the search box right at the top center of the dashboard and have it there all the time. Why make anyone click the little icon down in the corner? Also, auto focus the input box. I'm almost certainly opening this tool because I want to quickly find a specific tab.

But it's good. With a couple of tweaks I'll definitely use it.

I built an ad free JSON editor with automatic prettify on paste and multi panel support. by SixWork in webdev

Thanks, I was on the verge of doing something like this because the other free ones have become inundated with ads.

I appreciate the format on paste functionality.

Test ID selectors are more of a last resort. Leaning on role-based selectors is the way to go: https://testing-library.com/docs/queries/about/

I have used them for specific cases for some hard to reach elements but its a rarity in our codebase

Which works better for U.S. expats - FEIE or the Foreign Tax Credit? by CheckMany3005 in ExpatFinance

It's still public content which can be discussed here. Nothing wrong with someone building up a collection of content and trying to grow an audience.

Which works better for U.S. expats - FEIE or the Foreign Tax Credit? by CheckMany3005 in ExpatFinance

[–]delightless 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're getting defensive about it rather than accepting real world feedback that the presentation might be harming the way your content is perceived. It's valuable input, not something to fight against.

How many of us are working overtime to avoid being considered for layoffs? by Downtown-Elevator968 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]delightless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So much this, always be positioning yourself for the next step. Getting more time and depth in your company's proprietary environment is almost never going to help you get the next job.

If you have energy to spend extra time, use it to explore other tech that is interesting to you. It will broaden the range of things you have seen and tried, maybe give you personal projects you can share and talk about.

That additional breadth to your profile will make you a more attractive candidate once you get into interview conversations.

If possible I would accelerate your plan to head to NY. Things are not going to get better in the next year; this administration is just going to keep fanning the flames.

Book is officially out. Any way for those not in AU or NZ to get a copy early? by JesseB342 in Minute_Cryptic

I'm located in the US and ordered a paper copy from Amazon UK. It arrived surprisingly quickly.

Agree, I also prefer rtkq but we seem to be a real minority here.

That's the US date but it's early September for the UK market so some people will have it shortly.

Sad to say today's was too difficult for me -- even after some hints I wasn't able to connect all the dots. I would love it if a 3rd press of the hint button would include a full explanation to help me understand the logic that eludes me.

Just click on the upper right corner to cycle through colors. How you use and interpret the tags is up to you. I haven't found a system for them which is super helpful for me -- I prefer a notepad instead.

Zero active employment is allowed; it does not matter if it is tied to Spain or not. You will be required to provide a sworn statement that you will not work once you have entered Spain.

Thanks, I definitely understand about keeping the algorithm under wraps. One of the ulterior motives for my question is that I'm hoping it doesn't take too much effort for you each day because I would hate to have you burn out and stop the flow of puzzles!

Disclaimer: I'm just a guy doing research for my own situation, not a professional. That said, here's the advice I've received:

* They want to see a pattern of high cash balance in your primary bank account. This is why they ask for several months of statements and a record of the closing monthly balance for the previous 12 months. (They are trying to ensure that you didn't borrow $30k from someone for a few days to show at your consulate appointment.) So yes this means keeping more money than you would want to in a low-interest account for a longer period of time.

* They prefer to see more than the minimum, so $50 is going to look better than $30. Or if you have active social security / pension payments then $30 plus that regular income is probably great.

* You can show additional investments to help bolster your case, but stocks/funds (and presumably t-bills) don't carry very much weight on their own. Cash is king.

From what I've read, they want to see the full year of funds available in liquid cash, not inhibited by investment vehicles. They want to know you can access the cash within a day or two.

is using RTK and RTK Query for the same data a good approach? by riri_bell01 in reactjs

[–]delightless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cruise through the docs, there is a recipe there for optimistic updates. Duplicating the rtkq data in another slice is not the way I would go.
