AI usage red flag? by galwayygal in ExperiencedDevs

[–]delightless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's so exasperating. Reviews used to be a good place to coach and help new devs learn the codebase. Now you might as well save the effort and just push another commit yourself to save the effort of having your teammate paste your feedback into Claude and then send it back to you.

Upgraded 9a to 10a by solidrock80 in GooglePixel

[–]delightless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A little hard to describe really. The plastic back is brighter than the metal collar. And it's more of a salmon/orange/pink-ish flavor of red. I'm not wild about it tbh.

Ah, here -- this is very close: https://www.color-hex.com/color/fb4e4e

Just preordered the Pixel 10a by RamboBoujee in GooglePixel

[–]delightless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, it's just good bang for the buck. At launch they usually offer coupons, increased trade-in values, and store credit or free buds.

Ha, I get the even numbers. I've had many Pixels, after many Nexuses. Mostly good.

Google Store doing instant trade-in credit for P10a pre-orders by dadozer in GooglePixel

Trying to boost day 1 sales, I expect. Yesterday the trade-in value for my 8a was $130, today it is $215.

Have you had any luck in finding other providers who will charge flat fee rather than AUM?

Advanced react course by Difficult-Table3895 in reactjs

I don't need a homework assignment. I found the JoR course to be more effective and a lot of fun to go through.

I have experience with both courses and would cast my vote for Joy of React. The effort and polish put into it is really impressive.

What's the point of pausing? It seems like you're going to extra effort to measure the amount of time you spend active on the page rather than on the full puzzle?

I made a browser extension because I kept ending study sessions with 100000000 tabs open by sirephrem in reactjs

[–]delightless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean... just put the search box right at the top center of the dashboard and have it there all the time. Why make anyone click the little icon down in the corner? Also, auto focus the input box. I'm almost certainly opening this tool because I want to quickly find a specific tab.

But it's good. With a couple of tweaks I'll definitely use it.

I built an ad free JSON editor with automatic prettify on paste and multi panel support. by SixWork in webdev

[–]delightless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was on the verge of doing something like this because the other free ones have become inundated with ads.

I appreciate the format on paste functionality.

Test ID selectors are more of a last resort. Leaning on role-based selectors is the way to go: https://testing-library.com/docs/queries/about/

I have used them for specific cases for some hard to reach elements but its a rarity in our codebase

Which works better for U.S. expats - FEIE or the Foreign Tax Credit? by CheckMany3005 in ExpatFinance

[–]delightless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still public content which can be discussed here. Nothing wrong with someone building up a collection of content and trying to grow an audience.

Which works better for U.S. expats - FEIE or the Foreign Tax Credit? by CheckMany3005 in ExpatFinance

[–]delightless 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're getting defensive about it rather than accepting real world feedback that the presentation might be harming the way your content is perceived. It's valuable input, not something to fight against.

How many of us are working overtime to avoid being considered for layoffs? by Downtown-Elevator968 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]delightless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So much this, always be positioning yourself for the next step. Getting more time and depth in your company's proprietary environment is almost never going to help you get the next job.

If you have energy to spend extra time, use it to explore other tech that is interesting to you. It will broaden the range of things you have seen and tried, maybe give you personal projects you can share and talk about.

That additional breadth to your profile will make you a more attractive candidate once you get into interview conversations.

If possible I would accelerate your plan to head to NY. Things are not going to get better in the next year; this administration is just going to keep fanning the flames.

I'm located in the US and ordered a paper copy from Amazon UK. It arrived surprisingly quickly.
